Dear Helper ,I am trying to find some one who can help me .A ,Bill Collingwood was born in the 1860ies he became eventually a Chief Engineer or Captain in the early 1914 and he was on ships that went to S outh America and then returned to britain round trips -I know he was on the R M M V Lochoil in the 1930 -32 then he was on the "Highland Monarch" from then onwards .I was born in 1932 he became my Godfather ,after the1945 we lost touch.THe ships he was on were refrigeration and royal mail .Iwould like to know more about him .I have been in touch with Kew ,and now with "Ships Monthly " but know one can help me .Please help Regards mgt |

There doesn't appear to be a WW1 medal record for him in the Merchant Navy (the records are on the documentsonline site). |

They may have crew agreements for the ships he served on but I would imagine you'd have to pay for a search and/or copies. |

I cannot see an obvious William Collingwood in 1911 - though he could have been a long way out to sea when the census was taken. |

dear patchem,you are brilliant ,my grt uncle suddenly died in britirh guana in1926 his name was alfred seton miline he was the government vet out there.by the time my grt aunt sold off all house ,buisness etc it would be in 1930 -32 she returned to britain ,her name was mrs mary knox miline.she was fairly wealthy but lost all in the slump ,how can i find her name on the passenger list retuning back to britain ?a pity the "nelson line" is no more you are very kind in researching all this for me thankyou look forward from hearing from you regards mgt |

dear patchem,thankyou i will do this. my grt uncle trained in edinburgh in 1897.In 1926 he was infected with anthrax ,and was "dead ,buried "in the same day .he had a wonderful life ,with some friends he canoed up one of the tributies of the amazon in about 1915 .his university has his dairy of his adventure .i wish your daughter all the best .i trained as a nurse at charing cross hospital london ,humans can talk !!!!!, regards mgt |
