I have been having so much trouble trying to post this thread, that I have had to leave out valuable information from the title. Sorry folks - red message kept appearing and wouldn't accept names and places.

I am trying to find a record of death, possibly in India, for Sarah Thacker nee Parsons b. 1802 Sydney to Harry Parsons and Mary Swain.

Sarah married Thomas Thacker in 1819 at St. Phillips C of E, Sydney and they had two sons, William b. 1821 and John 1824 in Sydney. Thomas Thacker was with the Northamptonshire 48th Regiment of Foot which did a tour of duty 1817-1824 in N.S.W. I can't find anything on the NSW BDM as to further births for them , marriages of the sons or deaths that would fit.

I found an article in the Sydney Gazette and N.S.W. Advertiser dated 29/5/1830 which mentions Sarah's death and that the unit had been based in Bellary, 400 miles from Madras, India. There had been an outbreak of cholera morbus which killed many of the regiment and I can only assume this is where and how she died. I don't know how long it would take for letters to come from India, but she may have died in c1829.

I have since traced the youngest son to England where he died in 1892 in District of Northamptonshire

I hope this covers all bases. I have used the name filter and I have had previous contact with other members who have Sarah in their trees. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Please don't start another thread - anywhere...duplication ins't allowed, and GR members look at ALL boards when trying to help

Your best bet is to look for TonyOz's thread, and post a brief request on it

BUT....if she died in INDIA, he probably won't be able to help you

MEgirl Report 22 Dec 2010 10:23

I know duplication isn't allowed. I put this under Parsons on thread 1084606 and was told it would be better to start a new thread for Thacker because it is another family.

Yes, I need some one who can tell me about how to access Indian records. That's why I put INDIA in my title.

Flick

Flick Report 22 Dec 2010 10:35

Your title makes it look as though India is the person's forename........

To clarify, may I suggest that you change it to "Thacker death in India"

Flick

Flick Report 22 Dec 2010 10:46

I see that you have amended your title..............

MEgirl Report 22 Dec 2010 10:49

Yes I did because the programme would not let me do this earlier as I explained in my first paragraph. I kept getting error messages when I put Thacker at the beginning. Sorry if this caused confusion.

Just a thought........

Sarah's husband was obviously British, so there is a faint possibility that her death would be on the overseas index of Army deaths on Find My Past

I only have their 1911 sub, so I'm afraid I can't check............
