On the 1881 census this couple were living at Waltham Abbey Essex.I lived at the Abbey for 17 years. He was a beerhouse keeper then. The pub was "The Old English Gentleman" That pub is still there on the river Lea. It would be no good me driving to White Roothing as it just a little villiage. The village would come under Essex records Office in Chelmsford and they maybe able to help? Annie |

It looks like Ann was right.Looked at a few more census and if it is William Blatch that was born in White Roothing it looks like he settled down in Harlow. He was already in Old Harlow and was already married in 1851.Old road is still there and not a very big road. But on the 1851 census it says they lived at Bury Farm Old Road.Today in Old Harlow we have a Bury Road and that is off Old Road. Hope this helps? Annie |

Hi White Roothing or White Roding is close to Hatfield Heath and on A1060 to Chelmsford. Not far from me in Harlow but nearer Hatfield Heath. Annie |

It seems Old Road is no where near White Roothing so can't be the one. |
