Can anyone find her in the 1881 census? I am hoping she might be with her parents. I am doing the research for someone else as they are interested in getting started out as much as possible and then will order the certs they need. It is not my direct family.

According to her marriage 1893 in Deptford St Nicholas, her father was a George Ring (Engineer) deceased. She married Alfred Henry Mence (who also used the name Henry Charles Mence)

Witnesses to her wedding were Frederick and Fanny Ring, I think Frederick might be her brother and Fanny his wife. As I have found a marriage between a Frederick George Ring and Fanny Harvey 1885 in Deptford St Paul, father George Ring an Iron Moulder.

thanks in advance

Not sure Sib, had a quick look and there are 2 with father George in 1881, occupations dont match though........but that does not mean anything...people often flitted from job to job.

CelticShiv Report 13 Dec 2010 21:37

well the age and place of births match for both Ellen and Eliza, so I would presume the same person. Will look for marriage now, to confirm what her name really is.

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 13 Dec 2010 21:38

the one you found Ann, definately matches the Frederick with wife Fanny in 1901, so I think it is the correct family. :o)

eeek at 9.45pm???

I think I would of hid behind the curtains lol.

thanks for you help.

Night night xxxx

Kathleen, that looks like the marriage will save the reference along with all the others to give to them so they can order certs to confirm everything.

thanks

CelticShiv Report 13 Dec 2010 22:12

definately have it confirmed now.

Managed to find Annie's baptism. She wasn't baptised till a few years after her birth along with an older brother Walter William:

Name: Annie Eleanor Ring
Record Type: Baptism
Estimated Birth Date: abt 1877
Baptism Date: 14 Jan 1877
Father's name: George Ring
Mother's name: Eliza Ring
Parish or Poor Law Union: Deptford St Paul
Borough: Lewisham

but you can see that is clearly her, even if she is down as Eleanor middle name instead of Helena. But I would imagine it was written down how it was heard.

:)

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 13 Dec 2010 22:14

can anyone work out what the occupation is for her father on her baptism record?

thanks

KathleenBell Report 13 Dec 2010 22:18

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 13 Dec 2010 22:34

Don't know what I was doing wrong the first time - I found it this time.

His occupation looks like Trimmer to me.

Definition from old occupations site:-

Trimmer 1) Ship's crewman who trimmed coal in ship's bunkers 2) Dockworker who trimmed grain or bulk cargo in ship's hold to spread it out evenly

Kath. x

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 13 Dec 2010 22:48

that coincides with a dock labourer so sounds good to me :)

thanks Kathleen
