While you guys are investigating do you have any idea where I can find out where my ggg grandfather George James Neave born 1809 is buried, apart from contacting all the cemeteries around North Finchley where he died in 1887.

Not having much luck finding Edith after 1891, she may have taken up living with someone else under another name - which I think may have also happened with Alice post 1881 as there are no likely deaths, unless they were mistransribed.

thanks Alex I tried Augustus but his only son died before he was one year old. So the only brother left in the uk seems to be Stephen John born in 1842. The remaining brothers William Fredrick and Charles Alfred(my gg grandfather) both came to Australia.

As he didn't appear to have any legitimate offspring, the only living relatives you MAY find would be through his brother..............IF he married etc

in 1881 Edith's sister Lousia is at 55 & 57 Brixton Orphange, Barrington Rd, Lambeth. (As Monsforth on Findmypast).

Edith - down as Mensfork b. 1861 - is at Convallesant Home, Dover St Mary The Virgin in 1881.

Well second 'wife' Edith - from the fact her sister is living with them - Edith was a Mensforth - not finding any marriages for her.

Edith's age is actually 30 - not 50. Seems she may have been born in 1859 in Gainsborough district.

Nope - no marriages for him at all, perhaps he didn't officially marry Alice or - what looks like a second wife - Edith. Will keep hunting in case his name is wildly mistranscribed!
