John Ling was in the military and was out of the country in 1881 - (FMP military records) He was finally discharged in 1885.

Also, how sure are you about Elizabeth being a Hart? Do you have one of the children's birth certs?

Debbie, when I was looking for your Lings I saw that one in Bethnal Green. They are not yours as the Bethnal Green lot turn up in 1891 & 1901 when your family are in Somerset.

I've had no luck with 1881 even searching without names for Henry, but just any child born +/- 1881 in Wellington. He is a stepson so who knows what his surname might be. I believe he is Henry J., not Henry S.
