I am trying to locate 2 of my grandfathers brothers named Albert & Frederick Malin. I know that they were still in England in the 1901 census and I have been told they were put on a ship to America by their father Michael Malin. I would like to know what year they sailed and what ship they boarded. Any info about Michael Malin would be good also. Albert was born 1892, Frederick was born 1898, both were born in Birmingham/Aston Warwickshire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually I think the 1920 census immigration year should state 1919 not 1910.
His naturalisation card gives:
Albert Henry Malin of 365 Washington Street, Brighton, Mass Born 9 Nov 1891 Birmingham, England Occ Hotel Steward Unmarried (Divorced) Date of Admission 26th Aug 1919 Cert 1240779

Although i think that after checking on Free BMD there was ths Albert Henry born 1891 and then your Albert born 1892. So two different people.
Not seeing any other Albert Malin's of the right age on the US censuses.

Looks like Albert was sent to Canada not America.
1911 Census of Canada about Albert Malin Name: Albert Malin Gender: Male Marital Status: Single Age: 21 Birth Date: Feb 1890 Birthplace: England Relation to Head of House: Domestic Immigration Year: 1907 Tribal: English Province: Ontario District: Northumberland East District Number: 101 Sub-District: Seymour Township, Meyersburg Village Sub-District Number: 23 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Nelson Poole 41 Joseph Poole 70 Jane Poole 72 Albert Malin 21
Source Citation: Year: 1911;Census Place: Seymour Township, Meyersburg Village, Northumberland East, Ontario. Page 2, Family No: 16.
Name: Albert Malin Gender: Male Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1892 Date of Arrival: May 1907 Vessel: Carthaginian Search Ship Database: View the 'Carthaginian' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: Halifax, Nova Scotia Port of Departure: Glasgow, Scotland and Liverpool, England Roll: T-502
Will work on finding the outward entry! Think he might be mistranscribed. The image from the Canadian side seems to suggest some sort of BIrmingham based children immigration scheme.

Thanks Alexandra, I have been looking for a while but hadn't looked at Canada. As far as I am aware the brothers went together but I can not find any records of this. My great grandmothers maiden name was Moss on the marriage certificate but she found out when she was 72 that her birth certificate states Pettifor. I know she split from her husband and Albert and Frederick were still living with their mother in the 1901 census. I will have a look at the Carthaginian.

Now quite confused as there is a death in Birmingham in 1892 for an Albert Malin aged 0.
So I'm thinking the 1901 census entry may be for Albert Henry Malin born 1891.
Possibly the 1907 trip to Canada is him - but that he then came down to Massachussets from Canada in 1919?
I cannot seem to find him on the UK side - passenger list wise, looked for some of the other kids on the same page as him from the Canadian entry and couldn't find some of them either, but could find some others. All a bit odd but one of the pages isn't working on Findmypast so possibly he is on that one!
Here is his Social Security Death Index entry -
Social Security Death Index about Albert Malin Name: Albert Malin SSN: 021-09-9975 Last Residence: 02166 Auburndale, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States of America Born: 9 Nov 1891 Died: Jul 1968 State (Year) SSN issued: Massachusetts (Before 1951)
If MIchael was his father - he died in 1901.
Deaths Mar 1901 Malin Michael 55 Birmingham 6d 12[90
In 1891 MIchael Malin's wife Elizabeth is stated as being born around 1870 in Asbourne, Derbyshire. In 1901 Albert's mother is given as being born around 1874 in Yoxall, Staffordshire. It doesn't state that she is unmarried - it does have 'M' although it looks like a U, but she is down as the Wife of the head of the household, but he isn't at home. She is not stated as a widow, which I would imagine she would be if she was the wife of Michael who looks like he died before the census was taken.
I think that the details on the Canadian passenger arrivals gives the name 'Middlemore' - and found this online.

My grandfathers name was Charles Henry Malin, born 1909, shows up on the 1911 census. but that is where it gets really confusing. After Michael Malin left her she was left destitute, she then became a mistress to and had 6 children with him, but they all were given the name Malin when it should have been Loone. I do not think that Michael died, he just disappeared, so whether he also left the country I don't know. Trust me to have a complicated family.

Hi Alexandra, yes he was living a double life, he also shows up on the 1911 census as Charles Henry Loone, living with his wife just a few streets away. The information you have found me is fascinating. Thank you.
