Chris I should think that baptism is right as her father John Scott on marraige cert is a Cordwainer.

She was baptised late...was it common to be baptised at age 11-12?

Now all I need to find is Esther's maiden name - am I pushing my luck to find John & Esther's marriage?

Not sure about this one, might be too early, area fits in with Baptism, witnesses look to be a WM Pacey, and S Cassle?.

Sometimes Cherilyn they were older, a lot were done as adults, often before they got married. Found my 2XGt. Grandparents being 'done' with their children of various ages in Stepney, a great find that one was :-))

Lol Jennifer the London info' was a great thing for Anc...to do, but mistranscriptions are rife, takes some playing around with sometimes, bit different to trawling through records at LMA, and having that Eureka! moment :-))

The two families should be about on 1841, somewhere... :-)

Thanks Chris & Pam, these 2 certainly do fit together, but it doesn't match with Mary Ann's birth in 1834, as she would have been 6 or 7 in 1841...unless they had a Mary and a Mary Ann, and she was elsewhere on census night?

Any luck finding Mary A[nn] SCOTT in 1841 as born c1834 Islington, please? (assuming of course whe was born where she was baptised, which I know may not be the case!)

Or is that the only John & Esther SCOTT to be found?? :(

Brilliant work, Chris & Pam! This has to be them in 1841/51. Not only the connection as a builder, but John's age of 9 in 1841 fits and and Samuel was a carpenter on John's 1832 baptism; birthplace of Shoreditch also fits neatly...!

I can only assume Maria's age in 1841 is an error and should be 40 - unless that is a daughter? Does 1841 state relationships?

John must have been living away from home by 1851, aged 19.

Unfortunately the 1841 census does not give relationships. It is just name, age profession and whether or not they were born in the county they were currently living in....very limited information.

Original definitely gives Maria's age as 20.
