Hi

I've looked at the Scottish census transcriptions for this family but not been able to find anything and wonder if you are able to search on SP for them please?

I have found the following family in 1851 which I think could well be my missing family, but I can't find them in either earlier or later censuses........I would especially like to find them on the 1861 as it's possible there were more children born after 1855 and (fingers x'd!) if so, I might stand some chance of finding a birth.

Many thanks.

Hi Vera

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately everytime I try and add the details of the family I get the *error* message - it was only by taking all the details out that I was able to get the post added in the first place.

I will try and add them now.

The family on the 1851 census that I think could be mine are as follows:

Donald McKensie age 37, pob Parish of Contin, Rosshire
Ann McKensie age 36
Alexr - age 17
Donald - age 15
Colm - age 13 <<<<<<<<,I think this could be my ancestor Colin
John - age 9
Charles - age 6
Margt - age 1

Living in Inverness.

It would be so much easier to be able to put ALL of the details by c&p'ing :-(( - so I hope you are able to find (a) the same one and (b) the family in either earlier or preferably later censuses.

Many thanks

Hi Vera

Unfortunately I can't pm you the details either.......it just won't accept me including the details. :-((

Hopefully the info above will be enough for you to find them in the 1851 anyway.

Hi Vera

Many thanks for the 1861 census details.

I shall see if I can find a birth for the youngest child Joahan (strange name?) circa 1857........I bet they never registered him/her, that will be just my luck :-(((

Thank you Vera. This may be cheeky, but if there is any other info you can find for this family I would be over the moon! :-))))))

Hi Mary,
Joahan is a grand daughter...... not a daughter...

Christiana is the last daughter.

Hi Vera

Many thanks for your help. So, I wonder who's Joahan father........and where has Colin gone?

I know Colin ended up in the Army and married in the East Indies abt 1869/1870........I just don't know when he went out there though.......maybe he's already out in the E Indies by 1861?

Hi Vera

I've found Johan's birth and marriage of her parents Alexander and Agnes McQueen.

Also found possible death of Ann in 1868 - Donald is still alive at that time.

Hi Vera

I have only one problem with this family and that is that on all records I have found for Colin he always states his father's occupation as a Mason.

This Donald is shown as a labourer on all records I've found so far - and on Alexander's marriage he has put him as a Thatcher (or at least that's what I make it out to be?).

Ann's death records shows Donald to be a labourer too, so I'm still not 100% sure about this family. :-((((

Christina's birth reg doesn't show the date of parents marriage either. :-(((

I feel 99% that this is the right family, but just can't *prove* it enough for my liking :-(((((

Thank you Vera.

Mary,
Unfortunately marriage certificates and records where fathers names and occupations are concerned...are not always correct, for one reason or another.

Hi Vera

Yes I know, by the time I've got definite records for Colin he had *moved up in the world*, so I guess Mason sounded a bit better than Labourer. LOL

Just been on SP and given them the keys to my car! LOL but I've just found Christina's marriage to Niel Finlayson in 1873 and on that she doesn't note her mother Ann as being deceased, although I'm pretty sure she died in 1868.

I'll go and give them the keys to my house now lol and see if I can find a death or remarriage for Donald!

*gulp*.......I'm supposed to be working today! LOL.

Thanks for your help Vera
