Hello
Any info on the following warmly recieved;
George Samspson Born either 1868 or 1872 Birmingham_Parents unknown.
Married an Annie about 1892-Unknown. Annie born abt 1872 either Great Marlow_1901c-or St Marys Cray Kent.
Son John was born SMCray abt 1891. Sister Annie Born June 1899 East Malling Kent. Died Chatham Kent 1963. Married Charles Stanley Bawden 1922---Marraige unknown.
George Samson travelled a fair bit, don`t know if he was a Gypsy or not.
I would like very much to learn his background and find out who his wife was. Lived in a caravan on the Heath Malling and was in Chatham -Best Street abt 1918.
I do not know when they died. Not much for you to go on, but anything to get me beyond the few details I have would be great. Thanks.

Could this be Annie's birth which would at least give you her mother's maiden name

Births Jun 1899 (>99%)

Hi
I think you are spot on with Annies birth, I will order a cert;
Don`t think the census info is correct as that George appears to have married a Catherine. But hey-ho, I don`t know if he was married before.

Thanks a lot for your help. Off to order the cert;

Yes I do believe you are right! Thankyou.
I am off to check out some more info.

Katie Report 24 Nov 2010 21:59

I have checked all the Chatham parish records for 1stQ 1922 but can't find the marriage there. I don't suppose you have found them in 1911?

Hello Katie
A big thankyou to you for all your hard work and effort you have given me.
I re-checked the 1911c _no joy.
Annie Samson with the info you posted I have been able to trace her lineage through.
I cannot get beyond George Samson and find out if he had more children.
I looked for his son John and I cannot find any data for him.
Where is St Marys Cray? London?
I need the BMDs for him. Absolutely stumped.
Bye for now, off to do some more digging.

Try this link to a site re St Mary Cray in Bromley. It may be helpful also re the travelling community

St Mary's Cray is in Kent but near to London. There are lots of north Kent records on this site http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/, I haven't had time to search them all. They are not searchable but are images of the original registers so it's worth perservering with as they often have the same info as certs. Once you get used to the site it's brilliant.
The gipsy site in Chatham was on Ash Tree Lane/Beacon Hill but can't find it in 1911.

Hi Katie

Thankyou for the website address. Great. It certainly will be helpful for other travellers that I am looking for. Still more to chase up on there later.
I found a marraige entry for a George Samson and Annie Starkey-Bromley 1879----but that would leave a 20 year age gap for having the first child in 1891_unless they had loads more. Or a 2nd marraige. Maybe not. Both 24 years of age
Fathers there are Thomas Starkey and George Samson

So I will keep digging on the familysearch.org site.
Catch you later

Hi

John, son of George lived for a time in Tovil Maidstone. Do not know anything of him at all.
Heresay, George may have died in the 1940s.
Dtr of George may have been born Priscilla Annie Sampson abt 1898 Malling Kent___any records found state Annie.

Any help with untangling the riddles of the afore mentioned most gratefully recieved.

Hi

I have been told , third party, that Annie Sampson had 2 cousins Ocean and Lylie-not Lily. Any ideas?

Katie

Katie Report 2 Dec 2010 21:03

There are lots of girls with these names surprisingly! Any idea where or when they were born? Were they sisters?

Hello

I think they were sisters, possibly for the Medway Towns Kent.
So very little is known in the family about them. I really do appreciate your help. Thankyou

Maddy888 Report 11 Dec 2010 13:00

Hello
Had contact on another site from a person seeking the same people, same problems, and he said that Annie Sampson was born 1899 East Malling and her Mother Great Marlow about 1870.
George Sampson died somwhere in Medway.
Ocean and Lylie are thought to be Arnolds or Eastwoods.
Is there someone with access to the BMDs for Bucks able to carry out a look-up for me for the marraige of George Sampson to an Annie?

Thankyou. DDD
