Lynn is also often an abbreviation for Evelyn

The Snaith surname seems to occur mainly in the NE, Sunderland etc

I can find no Snaith born Lytham in approx 1955 on lancsbmd which it should be on. Only a Pauline Lillian born 1944 and brother William David b1946 both in Fleetwood.

It would help if *David* perhaps had a second name..?

The Snaith/Maxfield one was also what I found. Everything fits apart from the name of the sister. Just the two children born 10 years apart and mother called Kathleen (Kitty).

Found this on the school that seems to have been privately run and closed in 1986

Headroomgate Preparatory School for Boys, Headroomgate Rd, St.Annes was founded in 1928; the principal was Mrs M.Evans.

In 1928, a she set up a school in the Parish Rooms, St.Anne's. At that time it had just 5 pupils. At the end of WWII the school had moved into a Miss Coventry’s house on the corner of Oxford & Headroomgate Roads.

Mrs. Evans daughter, Betty Soper, took over the running of the school in 1959 and in 1963 a nursery department opened. Betty Soper retired in 1986 and the school closed. About 140 pupils were attending the school in the last term.

In the original thread we didn't get very far but came up with a David A Snaith born in 1944 in Durham SE with mother's maiden name Maxfield and a possible sister in 1955, but the sister's name now being known as Lynn or similar does not support this theory.

You could look on "search trees" and send a message to those with a David born 1944

Can you find a contact number for the school, they may have records, David may have to speak to them himself (or at least give permission for you to deal with it )

Hi Helen....no marriage so far

Hi Martin...from what David's said his father was definately a Yorkshire man...place of birth unknown....but his death would have been registered in Lancashire.

I'm afraid I have a go and pack....I'm off to Edinburgh to spend a few days in the records office and I was supposed to spend today getting ready...I'll be back at the end of the week

If any of you need look ups for Scotland drop me a line and I'll see what I can do

Jan :)

I have found a birth record for a John Hamilton Snaith born in 1923 in Rothbury, Cumberland, Northumberland/Westmorland he died in 1980 in Northumberland. The mothers maiden name is Lowes. Is this of any use. I will continue to look for you.

Kind Regards Martin

This is my second attempt at finding David's birth. My thanks to all those who tried the other day
I have just spoken to him and I have a little more information...not much but it might help track him down

His name is DAVID SNAITH
He believes that he was born in the last quarter of 1944 in ORMSKIRK. Lancashire
His father was known as JACK SNAITH, but David thinks that his real name may have been JOHN HENRY SNAITH and he came from the East Riding of Yorkshire. He was born about 1918 - 1920 and he died in the Lytham St Annes area when he was in his late 50's or 60's...so any time between 1968 and 1990.
David's convinced that his father did something to do with Radar during the war, buts he's not sure. He is certain however, that his father was stationed in Iceland and later in Holland. After the war Jack was a teacher.

David's mother was known as KITTY and she hailed from the West Riding of Yorkshire. He doesn't known anything other than that...however he does remember seeing his parents marriage certificate and being slightly shocked that she was probably pregnant (with him) when she married Jack

At least one of his parents was Catholic

David believes that the family moved to Lytham St Annes when he was about two, but he's pretty unclear on this point and mentions places like Southport and Hull. Certainly by the time he was old enough to go to school the family were living in the area and he was enrolled into Headramgate Preparatory School. At the age of (about) 11 David's father decided to "home school" him. Later David enrolled in a college in Manchester (a satellite college to London University) where he started a degree in economics he dropped out after a year.

David has a sister who is about 10 - 12 years younger than him. He called her LYNN but she may have been LINDA. She would have been born in Lytham. She moved to London where she subsequently married (spouse unknown)

I've hunted through the Ancestry records and haven't come up with anything and I really have no idea where to go next. I really would appreciate any help here. I'm trying to help David prove that he exists so he can claim the pension credits he so desperately needs

Thank you for taking the time to read this
Jan :)
