Potty.......I didn't realise that, (the before Partition bit), thanks for the info. :-)))

Carol.

If you can order from gro ireland as Potty has suggested, they are very good and you don't need all the info required, they do a search 2 years either side at no extra cost. I've ordered several times from them with very limited information, and got the right certs.

From familysearch record search pilot, the following marriages with the same vol and page nos:

Age (at Death):
Mother's Maiden Name:
Film Number: 101256
Volume Number: 2
Page Number: 155
Digital Folder Number: 4179388

Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958

Name: Maggie Harper
Registration District: Londonderry
Event Type: MARRIAGES

Volume Number: 2
Page Number: 155
Digital Folder Number: 4179388

Although the marriage took place in NI, because it was before partition, you can order the cert online from the Irish GRO:

http://www.groireland.ie/

Looks like they charge 4 Euros for a photocopy of the entry. The same applies to the birth reg I posted above.

If you do a free search on EmeraldAncestors, there is a marriage for a Charles Williamson to a Margaret in Londonderry in 1892 and also one for a Margaret Harper to a Charles, same year and place. No guarantee that they married each other, but a probability.

I have details from the Irish ones.

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Waterside/Bonds/1539590/

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_No__5_Urban/Bonds_Street/605947/

From the second one you can see that his father has married again and this would explain why I can't find birth or death certs for any of the family.

Carol,

Not sure what you mean by

"census for 1901 &1911 that looks like it might be them but you can't get the certs on-line."

Is that the English, Scottish or Irish census? They are all on-line, except for the 1911 Scottish one.

Would you like to post the details you have?

Carol

Carol Report 5 Nov 2010 15:51

I can't afford to get the service record to be honest think it's £30 and it might not hold much information.
I now think the family might have come from Ireland and have some details off the census for 1901 &1911 that looks like it might be them but you can't get the certs on-line.

Potty

Potty Report 5 Nov 2010 14:08

Do any of the certs have Charles's occupation on them?

Have you thought of get William's WW2 Service Record?

Edit: sorry, see his occupation was labourer.

Carol

Carol Report 5 Nov 2010 12:53

I also can't find a death cert for Charles Williamson but know that the cemettery records show his sons plot contains William,Charles and Susan.
William has a remebrance stone as he was killed in conection with WW2 and the commonwealth war graves info is "Service No: 2984933
Additional information: Son of Charles and Margaret Williamson; husband of Susan Williamson, of Port Glasgow.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead"

I can only find one death for Margaret Harper in the area and it's for an infant. No wedding cert for her or Charles and no death cert for Charles.

Really stuck here....................

Carol

Have you looked at any of these 3 births? I won't look at them if you have already and know that none of them are correct.

William James Williamson (no birth cert) 26 years old on wedding cert in 1921 when he married Susan Brennen (25 on cert)
Married in Greenock Renfrewshire.
Death cert for William in 1947 Susan listed as spouse and they were living in Port Glasgow Renfrewshire.

Williams parents from both certs are listed as Charles Williamson (labourer) and Margaret Williamson nee Harper (deceased)

I would be happy to send the certs I have by email or let you see my tree if this would help

Carol Report 4 Nov 2010 20:54

I am trying to complete my family tree and I am currently working on my husbands side of the family.
We have no one to ask so I am really working from records obtained from Scotland's people.

I ordered a wedding cert to start with in order to get the maiden names of mothers in order to work back but have came up against a problem very quickly.

I have a death certificate and a wedding cert for my husbands Great Grandfather and the details on it led me to search for his mother and father.
I can't find a birth, wedding or death cert for his father as noted on the sons certificates.
I have found a birth cert for the mothers details but also her death cert for these details as she was only days old and I have been unable to find another birth or death cert with those names on Scotland's people that could possibly be the right person.

I have not got a clue what to search for now because as far as we know the family has always been in Scotland. If someone would be good enough to help me with any ideas or advice I would appreciate it.
