John Report 24 Oct 2010 04:57

Hi Trying to find the death of Jane Watford (nee Dodds). Jane Dodds married Mark Watford of Everton Beds in 1866 in Shadforth Church in Durham. Lived in Shincliffe Durham before moving to Eckington/Mosborough district in Derbyshire. Mark died in1894(I have his death cert) but cannot find Janes death. I have traced the children in the hope she might have been living with one of them but no luck there. I have no access to the 1911 census so do not know if she lived after 1901. Regards John

Hi Jax Sorry about deleating a census. The 1891 census from you I think you have the wrong family. The name you have given is Walford it should be Watford. Also William would only be 21 born in 1870. The district is right.
Thank-you for your help. John

Sorry folks all those deletions are mine. For some reason only part of my reply is showing on the posting. I have sent John a PM with a probable remarriage for Jane backed up by the 1901 census showing that the age was correct at the time of the marriage. Also using the free to seach facitlity on the 1911 census showing her as Jane Staton in Chesterfield and her probable death in Chesterfield in 1921.

John
The 1891 census that Jax has put looks the right one to me--its just been mistranscribed-- as a lot are -- thats why its better to put "soundex" on if you can't find who your looking for straight away, as Jax will have done, as she is a very good researcher.

On the image its WATFORD and William looks as if he was 21 not 27
address 76 Station Road. Eckington

Have a look at the image John

Thanks Barbara - that 1911 census looks to be the correct family. Uriah was a coal miner on the 1901 census. The other Statons are his children from his first marriage - it looks like his first wife died around the time of Alice's birth. I certainly think that we have the correct Jane here. What did you think please? Thanks again for that 1911 lookup.

Thank you. rootgatherer , your welcome anytime for a 1911 lookup. (you can PM me with details , if you like, and i'll PM you back with census for you to put on the board / s--after all you have done the "lookup" in the first place )

Yes your findings all looks right to me--maybe John should send for the marriage cert --which will then show her fathers name, just to make sure, but looks good to me. Well done !!

Best wishes

Ah John, the fun of family history research - our ancestors seldom did the expected! It was so different in those days and often widowers and widows married fairly quickly after their partner's deaths and who could blame them as their life expectancy was less than nowadays.

Just really pleased that we have, hopefully, found your Jane. If you order the marriage and death certificates it would be nice if you came back to the thread and let us know if it is correct.

Good luck with your research.
