Sophia Pratt (nee Spencer) was the sister of my g-g-grandmother, Ann Spencer (1804-1874). Their father was Thomas Spencer (1779-1829), a Bilston Brassfounder. Thomas' wife was Hannah (also known as Joanna) Bratt (1778-1830) also of Bilston. I have more info if you're interested.

Thank you everyone for all the help you've given me. Sarah Joanna Pratt born in Worfield, Shropshire is the correct one. She's missing in the 1881 Census but I did find her in Wales as a teacher/Governess. The child Sarah supposedly gave birth to was my grt .grandmother. Because we have no proof of anything with regard to my gr grandmother's birth, I keep using the information found in her papers and on the birth certs of her children. I have no birth cert for her and she always stated that she was born in Stockton-on-Tees 26 June 1879. None of this info has proved correct to date. The parents she always gave were Sarah Joanna Pratt (elocution teacher) & Joseph Drury (with various spellings), supposedly a watchmaker, but I've never been able to find them.

In Australia her supposed daughter was partner/married to Charles Coles (no Marriage Cert ever found) and for their 1st child used the name Nellie Watson. For the 2nd child she was Ellen Ruth Drury, same with 3rd & the 4th Ellen Ruth Druary. So it's a mystery. I thought perhaps as Sarah Joanna was in Wales in 1881 she may have had a child there.

Any clues as to where I would look for a child born out of wedlock in Wales in 1881 ?
