Thanks i had seen the above. There is a person who seems to be very illusive. Thomas Elmes Born 1778 married an Elizabeth Groom or similar surname. In all trees i have viewed this persons surname is inconsistent. Without anyone spending hours would it be possible to verify this name and any details that may show. Thanks!! Ron

Hi again Ron,
Judging by the middle name of their first child, and, provided it can be proved that the three christenings are actually brothers, then I would suspect that this is the parents' marriage:
Buckinghamshire, England, Extracted Parish Records about Thos. Elms Ann Fenwick Text: Thos. Elms, of Beaconsfield, & Ann Fenwick, lic. 14 Jul 1774 Book: March Buried (Burial) Collection: Buckinghamshire: - Registers of Marriages, 1605-1837 Dea x
P.S. - Record found on Ancestry site.

To answer your question on sites.
I find my subscription to ancestry.co.uk to be invaluable
Other people prefer findmypast.com
Both might seem to be pretty expensive ......... but in my opinion and that of many others, one or other of these sites is a must.
You might want to try the Mormon site, it is free
www.familysearch.org ..................... especially the International Genealogical Index.
Go to the Home Page, Click on Advanced Search, Scroll down to International Genealogical Index
Do please be very careful to distinguish between Extracted and Submitted records
Extracted records have been taken from the actual parish registers.
Submitted records have been sent in by individuals, usually members of the LDS church, and have NO backing documentation ...... many of them may even be made up to fit known facts!
Try the Mormon new site, also free
beta.familysearch.org/
Julie gave you the Hugh Wallis site .... also free, but not updated since about 2004.
There is an Online Parish Clerks Project (also known as opc) ....... attempting to get information from old parish registers online. Also free
Work is very patchy ...... Lancashire (my home county) has a lot of information
Google "Buckinghamshire opc" and see what you can get
You might want to try the Buckinghamshire Family History Society .... they are very active. My father's family originates in 3 small villages in Buckinghamshire, but I was lucky in that my brother and cousin did an incredible amount of work in the "old" days (ie, 1980s), and I have not so far had to test the FHS!
To be honest, this site does not carry any records ..... it re-directs you to other sites.
Most of the people who help on here have only the basic membership ....... enough to build our trees, send and receive messages through the site, and post on these boards.
I have to go to bed, it's after midnight here in Canada and OH has to get up early in the morning to go "work" as a volunteer at an Apple Festival!
I hope you will have recieved more help by the time I am awake tomorrow

Ron
sometimes strange things happen ....... I've found that I sometimes catch either the ALT or CTRL key with the edge of my finger as I type away ..... 3 fingered and having to look at all the keys.
Then I look up and everyhting's gone! And that is what hitting one of those 2 keys can do!
I was of the generation that wasn't allowed to learn typing ... that was for the less academic students ............... so I taught myself! But I'm not a touch typist.

Thanks Sylvia I am annoyed to say the least but i will respond due to your personal efforts. Thank you sincerely. I mean by editing the name of the person , year of birth, Location of birth did not appear in my post. Now i will try again in a different way. The name was Thomas Elmes who was born in 1778 at i believe to be Beaconsfield Buckinghamshire.

what do you mean edited??
Did you post the message on either the Surname or History board? The Surname board shows the name of the person in a header line
We are now looking at it on the Trying to Find board. The two boards are somehow linked (don't ask me why or how!!).
BUT the header line with the person's name does NOT show on the TTF board.
There is no editing on this site ...... if they don't like what you've posted they delete it in its entirety!
Please ppost the information again ... on this thread! Please don't start another thread!!

we might be able to help, if you had only given us a name to work with ....... plus preferably date of birth/marriage, and location!
But I think I can say with some certainty that this site per se is NOT helpful for you.
Having said that ........ these boards, with the corps of volunteers all willing to help, ARE the best thing about this site.
Please post what you know and what you wish to find ........... and check back every 2 or 3 minutes for the frst 10 or so minutes after posting
and you might be amazed at the help you get ....... which could range from telling you where to go to actually providing you with the facts.
We're all members just like yourself, but possibly with a little more experience, and subscriptions to many other sites, plus knowledge of many other places to find information.

This is the earliest person i have on my tree. I am keen to go back earlier than this. Can anyone advise a Geneology Site that may be of assistance. Or if the answer is more simple, does this site provide the path of information. Thanks Ron
