These are the sites for the 1911 census -

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/CensusPersonStartSearchServlet?censusYear=1911

As Janey said, there are ways of searching. And I shall find a thread on the tips board that gives tips on just how to do that -
here it is, and I have brought it to the top of the tips board now:

Happy hunting.

You can search the 1911 here, Gavin:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

You can't see the details, but there are all kinds of things you can do without paying. I don't pay, and I find lots.

For instance, if you find Walter Tampin, you can search for any Tampin "living with" Walter Tampin in the same place.

If you can't find Walter Tampin, you can use Advanced Search and the wildcard search to look for Walter T*pin, or Walter with a name beginning with Tamp, and so on.

At FreeBMD, you know to search for births in the father's surname, and specify the mother's surname? -- from the marriage you have -- and you don't need to use anything else for the search, as long as they aren't Smith and Jones. ;)

It really is good fun to do the finding.
