Find Ancestors

Can't find a death cert. for my wife's maternal grandfather John Hilton Lonsdale. b 1883 in Salford, Lancs.

His father was Thomas Goodier Lonsdale, mother Sarah, sister Evia (or Enid), b 1890*. He married Fanny Lupovitch had 2 girls Maisie and Gloria. Disappeared from family history when left my grandmother around 1938.

Would like to know when/where/how he died. I've trawled through death certs systematically year by year trying to find his (quite unusual middle name), but have hit a brick wall as I've no idea where he finally lived or when he died.

He was in the Royal Scots as a Pte during WW1, made up to Hon 2nd Lt in 19 Manchester Reg towards the end of the war, and lived in Monton Green, Lancs at that time.

*Would be good to find some indication of his sister Evia (or Enid) to discover relatives/info down that line.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here would be much appreciated.

Unless he lived until after 1969, only the initial of the second name will be on the death index

so looks like Sarah predeceased Thomas.
Maybe Edith was the informant

I did check that Thomas B and its B on the GRO typed page. could be a typo but Thomas was still living at the same address as the 1911 census which is Fylde reg district . he could have course been in hospital so coming under an another district.Age is a bit too as he was 52 in 1911 so would 72 in 1931

Thanks Shirley for all this info. I had some of it so what you've found confirms that he's definitely the right person, but I had no idea where he died or what year. So although I'd systematically worked through about 15 random years of Death cert quarters - I didn't manage to nail him down - he didn't do too badly at 94, but I didn't get that far. Brilliant sleuthing on your behalf!

He actually died the year our youngest son was born - such a shame I never knew him (or how to find him). He must have upset my grandmother and mother big time - as they never spoke about him.

As to Enid, I presume that if she married she would be difficult to trace onwards. But I'll look a bit more.
