found this which fits in with census birth year, so maybe not as it's after Charlotte Marrying Mr Gregory

Does it actually say "Widow" on the marriage cert to George Gregory in 1919?

What does it say Albert Cook's occupation is?

maybe Abraham died after 1911 and Jemima remarried?

maybe Cook is the name of Charlotte senior's step father????

I was wondering if Jemima had been married before she married Abraham, (possibly to Cook).

but I found a possible marriage in 1875 for Abraham and Jemima which suggests Charlotte senior (b 1878) would be the legitimate daughter of Jemima and Abraham.

looking at the 1901 census she is listed as Mabel B G Hawes and the family have connections to Blything this seems to fit

If you get a child's birth certificate !! it will answer the question of whether a father was named and who he was, and what name Charlotte gave for herself.

Charlotte could have been living with someone as husband and wife before her 1919 marriage, or, as a single woman with children, could have represented herself publicly (and to her husband-to-be) as a widow, and simply maintained the fiction on the certificate.

The confusing issue is she was down as Widow when she married George Gregory in 1919.

i have looked at the 1911 cencus and charlotte aged 36 charlotte aged 9 and mabel aged 12 are together in the workhouse.all single all born leiston suffolk.

Hearsay is that she was married before she married george Gregory in 1919,On this marraige certificate she married as Hawes, which suggests she was single, but,why would her father be listed as albert cook?
I have been trying to find a marraige to either confirm or dismiss the hearsay,

If this is her 2nd child then she still wasn't married as the surname is still Hawes

Is there a reason to think she was married?

You need one of the children's birth certificates to know for sure.

However, the 1901 shows her as not married, and if you search at FreeBMD for a Charlotte Hawes birth 1876-1879 in Suffolk, you'll find a birth in Wangford registration district, which covers Bungay.

Have you not looked for her in 1891 with her family under that name?

I know she married George Gregory in 1919 and died in 1951 in Halnutree Hospital, Sudbury Suffolk. She had another daughter named Charlotte dob1902. in Ipswich Union Workhouse,
Trying to find if she was married when she had these children and to whom???

I can't find Charlotte Hawes on 1911, but there are a number of deaths and marriages for the period 1901 to 1911 that could account for her.

Michael, it seems clear that Mabel is the daughter of Charlotte, who is the servant (Charlotte's marital status is given as single):
