that is a possibility to revisit as Charles , Anorah's son, had brothers Edward, John and |Henry and I wonder if the only details were were able to find from the family were misinformation as he had 3 brothers (census 1881) and we were told by now deceased grandparents that he had 3 sisters with no other details known despite the info on the maternal side of the family being extensive and very accurate,
Had been in contact with the Vidler's a long time ago but it did not seem to link but that was before we knew about Anorah so will try again.

i wonder if this could be the eldest edwards birth reg

Sorry but that is the problem as all records were destroyed.
Who he was, where he came from, guess it was Ireland, who he married etc. etc. with just a single mention of the name John at the time of the marrriage of Charles, his son.

in part, yes, it is although we are no further forward.
John/James was the father of my G/G/F Charles and all family records or photos were destroyed in the past probably to hide their criminal records so we only have mention of John? on the certificate of the marriage of his son Charles/Florence Hall.
We have no idea where John was born, who he married and who his/her family were. We guess that John might have been born 1845-1850 as Charles was b. 1871 although that could be wrong if he was not an only child.
There appears to be several hundred John/James' in the records so the key appears to be to identify that marriage.

We have an ANORAH McCoy/Mecoy b. abt 1839 as she was 42 at the census but is this a real name.
She is possibly the wife of our John/James McCoy and she appears in the 1881 census but nowhere else.
In that census she is shown as living in Clerkenwell London with 4 sons.
Maybe she was Ann Nora although not found, a few Ann's and a few Johannah's but not convinced.
We need to find her so we can obtain a Marriage Certificate and, at long last, trace the family back a few more stages.
Any ideas on this unusual (apparent) name?
