Looking for any info about George W McArthur, I know he was born about 1826 in Edinburgh he married Mary Anne Miller not sure when Mary was born in 1834 Bowness on Solway in Cumberland.
George was a Lithographic Printer and must have moved to London as that is where the work was,
In the 1861 census he is in Newington in Surray

George W Mcarthur 35
Mary A McArthur 27
Ann McArthur 4
George McArthur 2
In the 1871 census Gorge is in Islington,
George McArthur 44
Mary Ann Arthur 47
Annie Artur 14
George Arthur 12,
Looking for any more information Birth,Wedding,Death,Census, in the 1881 census for Mary Mcarthur in in St Martin in the fields as a widower, but in 1874 I think it was, a George William McArthur Lithographic printer married in London is this correct any help would be appreciated.

Birth place etc of Mary and children would have been even more useful!!!

The George William who married in 1874 is likely his son. The record states father's name as George William, printer.

In The 1881 census Mary was born in Cumberland

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Sep 2010 20:54

I've just double checked the image on ancestry

Rowness Cambrdigeshire is a mis-transcription!

It is Bowness, Cumberland

I have sent in a notice of change

What about marriage in 1874 in London for a George William McArthur who is a Lithographic Printer

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Sep 2010 21:14

MargaretM suggested at 20:43 (5th posting down) that THAT George William who married in 1874 was the SON of George William born ca 1826

The image says his father was a Printer

sylvia

Brian

Brian Report 17 Sep 2010 21:15

George William McArthur's son George was married in Newington Surry 1882 to Eliza Andrews

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 17 Sep 2010 21:29

Curious then that there's a George William, lithographer who married in 1874 and had father George William, printer!

Brian

Brian Report 17 Sep 2010 21:33

George William McArthur 1826- his son George McArthur born 1859 if he had married in 1874 he would have 15 years old

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 17 Sep 2010 21:34

OK, not him then, it does say full age. But it does also say he's a bachelor so couldn't be the father, surely?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Sep 2010 23:13

well, I suppose it could if he had never married Mary Ann .................. technically at least he was still a Bachelor

we need to find them on a census to see how old that George William is/was

but I did try that earlier without any success.

Actually Brian ...... you could solve the problem by buying the marriage certificates.
