Dear Pat

This post of yours has thrown a spanner into the works. If this Nellie and Adolphus are the same and had a son Adolpha Francis in 1910, that leaves a question because my father was also born in 1910, Port Chalmers New Zealand.

I'll se what I can find out.

Thanks for the efforts.

Thank you Pat
That information gives me a link to NZ.
Nellie Victoria might be Nellie Veronica that I have. Her nick name was "Renna" and was my father's sister.
Nellie married to Adolphus was to the best of my knowledge also born in NZ
Thanks again

If you look at the 1851 for John and Eliza you will see Susanna and Elizabeth Jocque, Susanna is unmarried so I would assume that Elizabeth's (1824) mother's maiden name was Jocque or Tocque - need to investigate that one. Jersey censuses have a habit of entering widows under their maiden name which can be a bit confusing.

Edit: Had a look at the parish records and that surname should be Tocque

Name Age
John Du Heaume 27
Elizabeth Du Heaume 27
Louisa Elizth Du Heaume 2
Helena Jane Du Heaume 1
Cecilia Susan Du Heaume 4 MO
Susanna Jocque 52 <<<<< Aunt
Elizabeth Jocque 49 <<<<< Mother in Law

Be vary wary of any entries relating to Jersey on the IGI, most are submitted and few bear any resemblance to the actual parish records.

I would imagine that the family originally came from France.

I'll get back to you after I've been to the Archive and the registry office later this week.

Thanks for all the help thus received.

I have a link with Adolphus James du Heaume b., 1860 whose father was John (Jean) du Heaume b. 1824, married 27 Feb. 1848 to Elize (Elizabeth) Le Roux b. 1824.

Jean (John) Du Heaume's father was Phillipe Du Heaume b.1798 (St Peter, Jersey) married to Jeanne Le Sueur b. 1802.

I have hit a wall going back from Phillipe Du Heaume and Jeanne Le Sueur.

In regard to Adolphus James du Heaume b. 1860. I have more info that he was married on Jersey to Mary Anne b. 1853(?) and had a son, also named Adolphus b. 1882. Did this son have the middle name James like his father.

When did the du Heaume's first get to Jersey and from where?

Any help appreciated.

With names like Du Heaume and Syvret there is almost certainly a strong Jersey connection.
The 1861 census that jax posted looks very promising, interesting to note that he came from St Ouen as there is a huge Syvret family presence in that parish.
I'm working at the Jersey Archive this afternoon and will see what I can find. If it is him you could be in luck as the St Ouen's parish records are particularly detailed, often giving 2 or 3 generations of father's names in marriages and baptisms.

John Philiip's birth cert may be useful in revealing more about his parents, where they married, if he had siblings etc. His dossier and photo are digitised and online at NAA RcordSearch.

Apologies if you already have all this!

There was a Wm Leighton DU HEAUME from Jersey who married in Victoria to Jane HUTCHISON in 1874 (reg 4466). He died in 1907 aged 63 (reg 939).

Sarah Ann also born Jersey married James MILLER in 1875 (reg 1434)., as per above marriage notice - she appears to be a sister of Wm above, and Alice as well.

But no earlier Vic marriages for this surname. SYVRET does not appear at all in early Vic indexes.

An Eliza[beth] du HEAUME born Jersey c1838 died in Victoria aged 30 in 1868, daughter of Wm & Laura Caroline DU HEAUME.

Then Laura Caroline DU HEAUME, daughter of Wm & Laura Carol nee BAILHACHE, born Jersey, died in Victoria in 1876 aged 58.

There is a Vic birth to Adolphus DU-HEAUME and Nellie BRASCHER in 1914 in South Melbourne of Jno Phillip (reg24368). But no marriage.

Assume this is the Nelllie from the NSW death notice above. His death in Vic:

Surname: DUHEAUME
Given Names: Adolphus Syverit
Father: Adolphus Jam
Mother: Mary SYVERIT
Death Place: COLL
Age: 82
Year: 1964
Reg Number: 22650
Event: D

Alice DU HEAUME (nee BRASHER) died in Victoria 1966 aged 79, daughter of Geo BRASHER & Mary Ellen FLETCHER. From NSW marriages it appears Adolphus remarried after Nellie's death to her sister [as Alice CAMERON], in 1944!

Adolphus Du Heaume born 1856. Looking for link to Jersey.
He, or his father migrated to New Zealand, Dunedin, Port Chalmers.
Trying to establish correct line from New Zealand and Australia to Jersey.
Adolphus was married to Mary Syvret born circa 1860 probably in Collingwood, Victoria Australia.
I don't know if Adolphus was born in Jersey or New Zealand then came to Australia.
Any help???
