I'm trying to find my Irish roots but cannot get beyond Robert Dolan b. 1869 who married Mary Tate (Tait) b. 1874. My granddad, William Farrell Dolan settled in London from Gateshead. Anyone have Robert/Mary in their tree?

That looks like it, Gael.

I cannot find a marriage for Robert and Bridget, or anything to show where in Ireland they came from. As Latin was used in the baptisms, it looks as if they were Catholics and Catholic marriages weren't registered before 1864.

Thanks so much for your information. Gael - Guilimas William Dolan is definitely my granddad as he was born on the 8th April 1898. I'd be interested to find out where you obtained this info as there were many children - some of whom I knew when I was a child (sadly not my granddad as he died before I was born) and some of whom died in infancy. It may be that they were all christened at St Josephs. Is the info from genuk? Potty - I now have Robert and Mary's marriage and Robert's father is listed as Patrick (deceased). Although the name "Farrell" seems to be a family name and he may have been Patrick Farrell or Farrell Patrick and listed differently. Thanks again for all the info.

The baptisms and marriage that Gael and I found were from the Record Search Pilot on familysearch. I haven't found any other records for the family.

If Robert's marriage cert gives his father as Patrick I would be very careful about assuming that Farrel is his father. There were quite a lot of Dolans in Durham/Northumberland at the time and the name could go back a few generations and be used by more than one branch.
