OK.. I'm OK with Ancestry and other stuff but is lost when it comes to Irish records on FamilySearch Pilot.. How do I find the marriage for someone?

As far as I know, my GG grandfather (name is unknown) was married twice, but to who, is the question

I "Think" it's HAYES to KEARNEY as I found that 4 Kearney children's birth with MMN Reddan in Limerick. My great aunt was step sister to my grandfather (Patrick Joseph Hayes 1923-1985, not sure if the birth cert I obtained is correct). (I cannot mention my great aunt as she is still alive)

So how do I find out? I know the vol and page should match but how do I find a match? lol (I'm feeling like a novice when it comes to that!).

Thanks for reading this..

dajean,

That's what I got for my grandfather, I have the cert (just still not sure if that's the right one.. I'd say 90% sure it IS the right one as he always celebrated his birthday 22 June, but cert says 22 May!). His parents was Con. Hayes and Chrissie McGrath, got their marriage cert it says Cornelius Hayes to Mary Chrissie McGrath on 12 Feb 1918).

What I wanted to know is Cornelius or another Hayes chap marry someone with surame of Kearney nee Reddan. I can tell you that eldest known child for Kearney side was 1929 whilst my grandfather, Patrick Hayes was born in 1923.

Can you not ask Great Aunt for some information ? The thing we all fail to do is talk to living relatives whilst we can. Often they can tell you things paper records can't.

I havent seen her since 1990s and we dont have contact number (I dont even know what surname she's going by these days, even my mum & aunts has no idea).

Oh well, never mind - will put this on the back burner. Thanks anyway

I think you need both surnames, and sufficient info to recognize a likely rego for 1 of them - so say I feed in Cornelius Hayes and decide Limerick 1918q1 is likely. Pick M from BMD, his name, year and place, and exact search, and check he is still found - turns out I can't say Limerick, Limerick, Ireland, but only Limerick, Ireland, and now redefine name to McGrath, and scan all the hits (or all the female ones) for a match of q, vol, page.

Not too swift, but I don't see another way - as an aside, the search does seem a bit flakey on place names - and not just for this database.
