Fantastic poem Rose. I think these lyrics from Oliver are what a lot of members are thinking

You can go,
But be back soon
You can go,
But while you're working.
This place,
I'm pacing round...
Until you're home,
...Safe and sound

Fare thee well,
But be back soon
Who can tell
Where danger's lurking?
Do not forget this tune
BE BACK SOON.

Well said Rose.
I think we all need to recharge occasionally.

Enjoy your break, see you back refreshed real soon.

Cheers

Very nicely said Rose. We should help either with good grace or not at all.

I am commenting here so that I can read your poem when I get exasperated helping and remember that we all started somewhere - when I think of the ommissions I made when I first started my tree 30 years ago I wonder how I could be so careless! But hindsight is a great thing.

Good luck with your own tree and I hope many new branches sprout forth.

Brilliant Rose!!

I've been GC/GR member since 2003 (where did that time go?!) and I've seen names come and go. There's no way I want to cancel or delete my membership at all (but when I let it lapse, I get withdrawal symptom!!)

I do hope that those who're having a break wont be gone for too long :o)

Love the poem, I think we all get 'board fatigue' at some stage.

very good, Rose

I hope it won't be too long before we see you back, with batteries recharged and rarin' to go!

I normally get a break in the summer when we go to our cabin for 2 or 3 weeks at a time ................. but we've only been up there for half-a-day so far this year.

Lots of reasons ............... family visiting here for 5 weeks, but mainly major, major wild fires in the interior of the province making it both dangerous and difficult to breathe.

Hopefully, we'll get away up there for a couple of weeks before the end of September, when it really gets too cold for comfort.

Take care ......... and come back soon

Thanks,Rose!!!!!

I've found myself nearly at that breaking point as well.

It's a good thing I'm not a better typist-missives don't get dashed.

Deep breath.

I know we'll see you soon with a fully-charged battery!

All the best,
Maureen

Very poetically put Rambling Rose xxxx

I fully agree with your Poem....I have been researching & helping for over 10 years and although I do get annoyed sometimes I like you take time out and remember that Newbies have to start somewhere and excitement can sometimes make them forget to say their pleases and thankyou's. Saying this it also annoys me that some so called Helpers badger the poor Newbies when they duplicate post.

xx Much loves xx

That's brilliant Rose. I hope you are not taking too long a break. I've seen your name around for many a year.

I've been a member since 2003 and the last couple of years thought about not renewing my subscription - then changed my mind at the last minute. I am not doing any serious research for myself now but I would really miss coming on here now and again - even if it's not the all day and every day that it was in the beginning.

I've had some wonderful help on these boards from some very nice people and hopefully have helped a few others on the way.

Enjoy your break - but come back soon.

I like it!

An excellent bit of verse which also describes how I feel at the moment. Time to spend more time sorting out my own tree.

Will you be able to resist 'dipping in' to the boards every now & again though Rambling Rose? Happy hunting with your own tree.

I’m suffering from a syndrome
I call it ‘board fatigue’
It seems to hit researchers
When they reach a higher ‘league’;
The ones who’ve seen it all before
During long, long years of work
Finding missing rellies
For the good, the bad… the jerk.

It creeps up very slowly
This lack of time and patience
For the newbies who don’t know the ropes
for finding their relations.
We ask for please and thank you
But forget it’s down to us
To lead by our example
Not whinge, and moan and fuss.

We do this ‘job’ for pleasure
( for ‘job’ it has become)
And success we have to measure
In terms of having fun
But if the fatigue syndrome strikes
There’s something we can do
A little break is called for
till we return refreshed anew.

Not snarling when a newbie
knows no better than to ask
Where John Smith of no age was born
Or other hopeless task.
A break to recharge batteries
And recall we all were once
In terms of genealogy
A pure and utter dunce.

So as I shuffle westwards
To take a little time
In putting up together
The tree that I call mine.
If you stay to do researching
For Tom, or Sue or Jack
Try not to catch the syndrome
Cut the newbies some more slack

Thankyou to all the helpers who gave me a start with my tree, all the helpers who I have been privileged to 'co-operate' with on searches for others in the last few years , and to all the 'oldies' and 'newbies' who have given me look ups to do which have occupied otherwise empty hours (lol). I have really enjoyed helping and in some cases getting the feedback off-board that relatives have been found .
