Can anybody please try and help me find the death of George William Whiting.. All I Know is that he Married Mary Holmes in 1886 in Seaforth. WD 8b 667 June qtr. Mary remarried again in 1916 so he must have died between 1886 and 1916. I have been unable to find a death for him. Any help would be much appreciated.

Where might Seaforth be?

Have you looked for him on censuses, to get an idea of time-scale for the death?

Jean

Jean Report 19 Aug 2010 22:43

Near Crosby, Liverpool . But was Lancashire back in 1886

When and where was he born?

His marriage year is of no help in looking for a death

Jean Report 19 Aug 2010 22:46

I have not been able to trace them together on any of the census.,. All I traced was their marriage Reg WD 8b 667 Jun Qtr.

When she remarried in 1916 she was down as widow her name was Whiting. i have this marriage cert. I dont knowm anything else about him. But I know her family lived in the Crosby area. And in the 1911 census she was living in her brother 's house under the name of Paxton, but she did not oficially become Paxton until her marriage in 1916. So it look as though she wasn't with Geroge Whitting in 1911for what ever reason.???

Hi May B

Do you have the marriage cert for George William Whiting and Mary Holmes in 1886 in Seaforth. WD 8b 667 June qtr? That will hopefully give an approximate age, where he was living and his father's name to work with

We would then find it easier to locate him on census records and possibly find a death record

if you don't have the cert, you might want to order it

(put those pliers down Flick)

what was her brother's name?

That may also help to find her on earlier censuses

Her brothers name George William Holmes. But I have more or less the full history on her parents and brothers . She is my only problem.

Most of her family lived in Great Crosby Lancs. upto 1911 census. which I have .

No I haven't got The Whiting marriage cert. Because I am not complete sure it is her. ( On her birth cert. and some census she is only down as Mary Holmes NOT MARY AGNES HOLMES. I know on her last marriage cert. in 1916 she married Thomas Paxton and she was a widow and her name was Mary Whiting on that cert. I know that Thomas Paxton was definitely her husband as I do have that cert. and all the info. her fathers name and his occupation on the cert are correct. Also the address wehere they were living on the marriage cert. was in St. Lukes Road Great Crosby and that is correct. ( ITS THE AGNES BIT THAT I AM UNSURE OF). The Whiting marriage I found was in 1886 at St. Thomas's , Seaforth Lancs . Registers at South Sefton. (Seaforth is only a few miles from Great Crosby.) and that is why I thought it could be her marriage..

Thanks for trying to help me.

Cheers

May

it is not at all unusual for a child to have only one name on the birth registration and certificate.

Many parents did that ..... or even registered the baby as Female Jones! .............. then a second (or more) names were added at baptism

It still happens!!

Maybe if you could find her baptism, that would tell you if she was baptized Mary or Mary Agnes

Plus of course, there are those people who later just add another name to themselves, just 'cos they like it!!

People also did not always give all their names to the census enumerator ................... or they alternated between the names from census to census

This was all done just to baffle us, their descendents!!

Well They have manage to baffle me several times whilst doing family research..

Mary had her self down as Mary Paxton, married 6 years,on the 1911 census . When all the time she wasn't. because she didn't marry until 1916. So sometimes I wonder if she was ever married to a Whiting or even a widow. Could they possible tell lies on their marriage cert.??

Thanks for all your help.
Cheers
