Just to let you know that Hubert Wilde is definitely the one in my tree as I found a passenger list for him travelling from Cape Town to Southampton in 1926 - Master Mariner and his England address is 246 Neville Road which is where his wife Jeannie was living with her parents.

Very interesting....putting on weight as he got older - wonder if he had a gal in every port too!!

He was 5'9", 14 stone and had a Japanese lady on his right arm, eagle, snake and butterfly on his left arm. The last one has him at 16 1/2 stone.
I think you need the marriage certificate to confirm his occupation, but it does sound like him.

Gosh ***alviegal*** - how clever you are!! Maybe thats why I couldn't find him anywhere - It certainly fits as he was born in Birmingham area.

William and Jane had had 6 children, 5 still living.

If this is Hubert before he married, perhaps he was away when the census was taken. He was a 2nd officer from Birmingham.

There are quite a few sailings for him. This is a later one when he was Master. He had been sailing for 40 years.
