I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for help with tracing the Australian branch of my family. In particular I woud like to thank Colin who provided a passenger list and then told me about a very large family tree, with photo's on Ancestry - as a result I am now in touch after 30 years. You are all so brilliant and I am in awe lol.
Best wishes and I will be back for help very soon

Hi Colin, I don't have membership to Ancestry but the name Gwillim rings a bell. Can I access it without being a member?
Thanks
Suzanne

I have now discovered the birth records for the children:

Audrey I Hayes b. Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1st quarter of 1933 and
Cynthia J Hayes b. Gosport, Hampshire in 1st quarter of 1935

Will carry on searchin for more information although looking at the passengers lists they were both listed as 'Miss' so it looks like they married in Australia.

HI, I have been advised to post more details that have been discovered so anyone in Australia can maybe help.

We now know the following details:

Walter Edward Hayes b.4th quarter of 1905 in Isle of Wight.

Isabella Nora Hayes nee Cutmore b.1st quarter of 1906 in Sudbury, Suffolk.

They married in Birmingham in September 1928 and had 2 daughters in England named Cynthia J Hayes (b. about 1935) and Audrey I Hayes (b. about 1933) I am currently looking through the births to find out exact details.

They left England om the Orontes on 22/01/1954 which docked at Sydney Harbour. I believe they lived in Queensland (Gwympie or Gympie rings a bell). I believe they died around about 1979, and I know the children married and had children of their own.

Any further details would be greatly received.

Thank you all once again

Suzanne

I have just posted you the birth and death of the Birmingham one.... Susan

Suzanne Report 15 Aug 2010 12:07

I'm really confused now, I have found Walter Edward Hayes Born Birmingham 4th quarter of 1906 Vol 6d Page 82. I will check to see if there was any deaths on the Birmingham one and then it can be discounted. It's looking more likely that the IOW one is correct, thanks for your help Suzanne

There does not appear to be a Walter Edward Hayes born 1906 Birmingham on a 1911 census.

I have continued looking through the births and have found another Walter Edward Hayes born in Birmingham 4th quarter of 1906, I think this is more likely to be him. Can anyone look on the 1911 census please? Thanks Suzanne

Hi Suzanne ....... He was born IOW and on the image it looks more like Edward than Edmond!

6 children were born to the marraige and 1 had died.

Thanks for that, does that mean that Walter was born in IOW or that he was attending school in IOW? Thanks Suzanne

Hi can anyone check on the 1911 census please for Walter E Hayes? I have found a birth record for a Walter Edward Hayes born in the Isle of Wight Vol 2b Page 1905 born 4th quarter of 1905 and I think he may be my great uncle, if it is him he ended up in Birmingham and married my great aunt in 1928 in Birmingham and then emigrated to Australia at some point. Thanks in advance Suzanne
