Hi Minnie many thanks for posting.
Don't know about that, but did spot War Memorial info when I put Chilham in Google so there are still Jukes in that area.

Hi Rachelle, I guess one of the reasons I've taken this up is because I've got very little in the way of photos myself. The other thing is that there's a far greater chance of people sharing photos as these days they only have to scan them and not give them up. And at least if you've put them on the internet somehow (even just e-mailing it to yourself) you won't lose them in a flood/fire etc.
Got my pessimistic hat on today!!
Hope you go ahead with your photo quest. As it will be great to return them to an interested relative.

Hi Liz. Will be writing to David Jukes first. If there's no reply then I think your suggestion of the church or pub could be the next move. Thanks again Liz.

Many thanks Robert. Tracey has taken this up before I even got back to this message board and sent address. Things moving fast!

How lovely of you to be doing this...pleasse let us know how you got on..

I went to a clearance auction maybe 10 years ago. Apparently the property was in the hands of the last family member and after their death everything and I mean everything was sold. I picked up a huge package of photos, cards etc for I don't know what it would be in pounds, maybe less than half a pound and you have inspired me to see if there is anyone here on the siste who they would belong too, as I can tell that the family originally came from England and often visited their Australian relatives.

Regards

Rachelle

Chilham is a very small village. If you google "Chilham" it may give you the name of a shop or the pub, and you could contact them and ask if they know of D. Jukes. If the church is listed, the vicar may know the family, and if the owner has passed away.
Hope you are able to reunite the album with it's family.
Kind regards, Liz

Hope you're out there Liz 47.
Have had reply from wife of seller, who bought the album at an auction at Chilham in Kent with every intention of reuniting album with owner, but not enough time to do so. Really pleased I'm having a go. It was sold as part of a mixed lot and had been at auction rooms from about beginning of March. Apparently a lot of house clearers use that auction room. So sadly D. Jukes may have passed on. Think I have to wait till about March 2011 to see if there is death cert for that area. Hopefully there will be an interested informant who had not meant the album to be cleared. Meantime I'll have another go at tracking D.Jukes down on the internet.

Thanks Liz. Had a look at that. Think I'll have to buy another item from him. Think he is a car-booter as he has loads of items either that or he's into house clearance. Don't think I'll get very far with that. Do have his address think I'll see if he'll send me a quick email. He can at least confirm he picked photo album in Kent.
My Husband, Brian is a bit more pessimistic about this - has D.Jukes passed on to a better place. He would be about 65 (young these days!!)

Have you any way of contacting the person from whom you bought the album,

Thanks Madeline, but I don't think there's tat much to make a story out of. If only D.Jukes had taken some extrordinary photo of elephants, the Queen or some famous sportsman.
His photos are just a remembrance of a cherished childhood.

Thanks again Liz. Will persue that idea when I turn up at Family History Centre (Angela - Brian's Wife). Have also very carefully got photos out to look at the back of them - no clues there. I wonder if the photo of him with his bike was a prize for passing the 11 plus. Shame I can't make out school badge.

Have you thought of contacting a Kent History Society/Group

You could put an ad in The Times, or on the radio!

Many thanks Liz. No obvious candidate. Suspect D.Jukes is a David (favourite Jukes name). The fact that the seller was from Kent may be a complete red herring - though there has been a Jukes group out there for some years. Hopefully someone will know of D.Jukes
