Suzanne Report 21 Jul 2010 08:11

Hi my names Suzanne Porter - I’m in search for some information about my Great Grandfather. His name was Frederick Michael Ruddy born C1981. His profession when he was older was: Stker R.N Hills "Lord Nelson"(Ship Platers Helper). He Married Ann Dick & they had two children Ethel & Freda Ruddy (who was my Grandmother and later became Porter)

I could only find one "Fred Ruddy" on the 1901 census who was born in Bootle Merseyside England, and automatically thought this could be my grandfather however after doing a little more research i think this is probably unlikely - as when I looked for both Ann & Frederick on the 1911 Census neither of them appeared - however I know they did move back to Stockton-on-Tees by November 1915 as this is where & when my Grandmother Freda was born.

If anyone has any information that would be helpful that would great thanks

RUDDY Frederick Stockton 10a 142

Do you have this? Would be very useful for occupation, father's details.

I'm thinking that without details from the marriage cert we won't get anywhere. Have searched 1911 till I'm going cross-eyed and nothing obvious stands out.

Hi Everyone

Thank you so much for all your help!! I wasn’t expecting such a large response. Firstly yes sorry yes he was born C1881 not 1981 like I put!!

Firstly Brummiejan can I ask how you found out that Marriage date - as I have been searching for it on http://www.stocktonroots.co.uk/ so I could order the marriage cert so could then find out who Fredericks parents were.

Batman daughter - thank you so much for all the information you have provided. The death of Frederick Ruddy in 1938 may link in as my father never knew the name of his grandfather (I had to find out this information from my grandmothers (Freda) birth cert. Again thought neither the Birth or Death is on the Stockton Roots website - which I find strange as I have found all of Ann’s family on there & Freda & Ethel are also both on there too.

regards
Suzanne

Well thank you Dee for all your help with this - was just wondering do you think they called Frederick - Michael instead of calling him Frederick (if that makes sense). I know its strange that Ann doesnt seem to appear anywhere on the 1911.

Hi Suzanne,

I really don't know if they called him Michael or Frederick.

I think your best bet is to get their marriage certificate, Brummiejan has supplied the info needed. It should give both their ages, their fathers names and occupations and very often the witnesses are family members which is also a great help.

All the best, Dee x
