BREAKTHRU...

I think...

Just Googled and found his burial in 1960 at **Nambour** Garden Cemetery!!! Surely that means he must be 'your' man?

Cole, William Gordon, d. 18-8-1960, Age/Birth:1921

This is a perfect match with the Dec 1920 birth from the WWII enlistment and also the 1960 death reg in country Qld:

1960/C3008 William Gordon Cole [father] William [mother] Olive Catherine Bowley

This matches the Dec 1919 marriage I posted on my lookups thread, and so on...

Maybe you need to tread carefully here, as his father's death so early may be a painful thing for the family, hard to know sometimes how ppl will react. But of they are open to chatting about it generally perhaps they will be okay with it...

(The story of Irish roots may have come down thru one of the 2 grandfathers or even one of the 4 greatgrandfathers.)

Sorry can't help without more info. Do you at least think that the WWII enlistment I found is the right person?

COLE WILLIAM GORDON : Service Number - QX41934 : Date of birth - 17 Nov 1920 : Place of birth - BRISBANE QLD : Place of enlistment - GROVELY QLD : Next of Kin - COLE WILLIAM

From http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

A birth year of 1920 in Qld seems about right if he married in Qld in the 1940s? (Tried Ancestry for his birth but, as I suspected, no luck).

Basically you need to determine if the 1960 death is him. If not, back to the drawing board, I am outta clues!

Hi again

No luck with marriage but possible death in 1960. Maybe you can ask their son some sneaky questions...unless you know that his dad died young? He would have been about 40 (from WWII enlistment showing birth year 1920).

Details on my lookups thread...http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1198324&px=11

Looking at the ER he was alone in 1943 and with Thora by 1949

Just thought it might narrow it down a bit!

I will be saving that .Armstrong Cole fab name
From the information I have gleaned from my friend (,but without alerting them ) you know just passing the time of day.
The families began in Scotland and Ireland mid to late 1800s.
My friends are coming over next year and I would like to take them to Ireland and Scotland to show them their roots.
