Hi Greensleeves

I saw that one and may have to send for it, but age isn't quite right. I suppose that probably wasn't unusual though.

Thanks Jane

Hi Dee

Thanks, didn't know about 1875. Just want to trace her family back and thought birth cert would be useful.
Don't know where hubby was in 1901. Her death cert stated widow. But I have birth cert for daughter born 1893 and no father listed, but when daughter married her surname had changed from Culmer!! So don't know where he went. Really frustrating!

Thanks Jane

Laura is still stating she is married in 1901...... so where was hubby?

Hi Jane,

I don't see a birth registration for Laura, but remember that strick registration was really enforced until 1875.... although registration was started in 1837 it was the parishes responsability to track down births and very often many were not.

Hi I’m really stuck with this couple. I want to order a birth cert for the wife and a death cert for the husband but I can’t find either of them on freebmd.

Wife is Laura Allchin, found her christening on IGI Apr 1852, Milton next Sittingbourne, Kent but unable to find GRO index for birth. (Also have her death cert - Feb 1928, Dartford).
Husband is Charles William Culmer, have his birth cert (Sep 1850, Dartford) and their marriage cert (March 1872, Bermondsey) but can find no record of his death!! He is on 1891 census with wife and family in Dartford, but not 1901 or 1911.

I know their eldest son emigrated to US with his family in 1914 (thanks to help from lovely people on Genes a few months ago) but haven’t found any trace of him going with them.

I’ve tried various different spellings for both but still no luck. Would really appreciate any suggestions please as I don’t know where to look next.

Thank you, Jane
