SO glad they didn't keep them in Ginns - as you say, it's too late for the antibiotics to help son feel any better but hopefully, as he has them early, JB shouldn't get any worse !!!
Such a good job you made them go Ginns, I am sure they would have put things off otherwise then goodness knows how bad JB could have become.
Anyway, a speedy recovery to them both and I hope you all feel better soon and manage to enjoy your Christmas.

Just got back
Sat in an isolation room, them coughing and laughing at me and calling me Dr Doom because I’m telling them its Whooping cough...
....and she who laughs last......Whooping cough it is, confirmed by Dr Gill, not Dr Doom
Both on antibiotics, No2 son to stop him infecting others (had it too long for the drugs to help him feel better) and JB should get some relief from the meds as it’s caught so early.....'You did the right thing to bring them in, especially with your husband having asthma'...says Dr Gill
Thanks for all your good wishes gang <3

Gin,
Sorry to read about your families current ailments. Not something that you want at the best of times and certainly not at Christmas. Hopefully the visit to the clinic will see them started on the road to a very quick recovery.
All the best.

Fingers crossed then - at least they will get the right treatment!!
Later, when you feel like a bit of a giggle - you might like to consider this little story about 'Special Clinics' :-D
They always used to call those clinics for 'sexually trasmitted diseases' in all the hospitals 'Special Clinics'!!
Many years ago, my husband used to work for a Pharmaceutical Company and one of the Drugs he dealt with was used to treat such conditions and so he would pop in to see the Specialists there.
I had a phone call once asking for my husband who was out at the time and, having established that I was his wife, she asked if she could leave a message for him?
She introduced herself as nurse xxxxx at the xxxxx Hospital and then started by saying that my husband had been in to see them the previous day in the 'Special Clinic' there...................... she then panicked and stuttered to explain that he was NOT there as a 'patient' but was there to speak to the Consultants about the drugs they use etc etc.....
This really amused me and I reassured her that I knew all about his work and why he would be there................
It was really funny at the time though - even though I could not see her on the other end of the 'phone, I could 'feel' her going bright red with embarrasment :-D :-D
See you later - Hope all will be well,
Dea Xxx

Well Good Ginns !
It is probably better that they are seen and there should be someone at the hospital who may know more about what treatment he needs. After all, your GP didn't diagnose and treat 'your' problem as whooping cough in the beginning did they??
Hope all goes well - let us know when you get back!

Just popping by to wish you all a Happy Christmas, despite the health worries some are facing.
Gins- when you get to the hospital, do tell the receptionist that they have been in contact with whooping cough and make sure they are put into a side room so there is less chance of infecting other people.
Fingers crossed that it turns out to be a bad cough, and nothing else.

It's prednisolone here Gins.
They are steroids.
I take them as a course of tablets to sort things out when I get really bad - usually for about 10 days.
There is a 'newish' inhaler (turbohaler) called Symbicort which is actually brilliant! - Unlike the others, it is strange because you cannot feel or taste it so you think you haven't had any but taken twice a day it makes a real difference.
Depending on how controlled his asthma is normally, it might be worth asking about when this whooping cough problem has been sorted.. I found that I didn't need the 'preventer' inhaler and at hardly any salbutamol unless I had a bad 'flare-up',

Like Dea,
I have Prednisone with me all the time... My doctor is the same she knows I won't just have them for the fun of it... besides if you take them for too long your body will react and your pulse will race etc.

I take it when I get an attack and it alleviates and I use a spacer and ventolin puffing in and out. You can only take it for a short while but it is excellent (for me) ... the ambulance guys were impressed that I had presence of mind to take it and with that and me puffing and blowing and then their nebulizer administered at home followed by another couple and I ended up home same day. If I hadn't done that straight away I would have been on the floor and out of it :-(
Otherwise I take flixotide preventer morning and night.. :-S

OOhh Ginns - Yes, make sure you get something for JB before he gets any worse!!!
Luckily, my 'lovely' Doctor lets me have prednisolone and antibiotics to keep in the house so that I can take them immediately when I need them.
I then go and see her when I have finished the course and she checks me out, then gives me another prescription to keep in for the next time!
Not all Doctors will do this though but she knows that I will only take them when absolutely necessary.
JB will most certainly need something to keep things under control !
Let us know how you get on with the 'Doc' <3
