Good morning!

Thank you Sylvs, I've browsed through the selection of cereals and gone for Golden Nuggets. Well, the packet was nearly empty so I thought i would finish it off.

Isn't it strange about the washing/drying saga? I only use my dryer when I really, really, have to - they are expensive to run over here. I love sunny days when there is a breeze and I can hang lots of things out to dry. I actually get pleasure from watching clothes blowing on the line. :-D :-D

Off to try the bed for OH this morning......... :-D

Good morning all !

Today I will have some Potato, dill and cheddar soup followed by a Maille Croque Monsieur topped with lots of bacon.

That is going to be delicious :-D :-D

Thank you Sylvia <3

it does get lonely!!

could use one of those................. but same problem of theft arises.

In all honesty, most people over here do not hang out their washing ................ they all have washers and dryers, and that is all they use.

Most think we are very strange in not owning a dryer, and in hanging clothes inside.

Even my daughter who grew up with hanging the washing inside ..... even though it means you have to have more undies etc than most people to allow time for drying, ............... has used dryers since she married and moved away.

Even now that she has a house with a completely enclosed back garden with no back lane...................... 6 houses all back on to each other in a rectangle shape, and their back gardens all meet in some way or other .............. she does not hang outside.

Even though she's often said that her clothes and linens do not last anywhere near as long, or as well, as they used to do "at home"

I think most people wash in the evenings, after work. No-one wants to do it at 6 or 7 am, which is what they would have to do if they did it before going to work.

Hours are much earlier, both for schools and work. Schools tend to start at either 8 or 8:30 am, and many work days start at 7:30 am, if not earlier.

............ and no-one wants to hang out their washing in the dark, or leave it out overnight.

so it's dryers for ease and simplicity of life.

Could you have one of those rotating thingies which you can put away when not in use Sylvs?

Tomorrow we are going to see about the adjustable bed for OH.....he is going to try a couple of mattresses! Should be fun....... :-S

Hope you stay busy on here Sylvs, it must be lonely after we've all gorn to bed........ :-(

Night all ~~~~~~

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Jul 2012 21:46

Dea

it seems to be a problem in a lot of areas ........ and has been for 40 or more years, so it isn't "new".

Our back gardens usually do not have more than a low (3') post and rail fence, so everything can be seen very easily .... and this of course adds to the green scene, and lends some "borrowed scenery" to us all.

Houses built in the last 10 years or so are tending to have higher fences .......... some are even coming close to breaking the by-law that forbids fences higher than 5' or 6'.

Plus we don't have a gate across the back driveway so access is easy ................... and even that is far from unusual.

we trade openness for some security problems.

Mind you, the major problem is in fact the space!

Linda

one of the sad things is that we cannot put lines in our garden ..........

...... first, we are a corner lot, and laundry is regularly stolen from lines on corner lots. Houses in the middle of the blocks have no problems

....... second, we actually have no room to put up a decent sized line due to a big cherry tree, and the kiwi vines ...... which themselves are about 15' high

Otherwise, I would LOVE to have an outside line! I look with envy at my neighbours!

Hi Dea

yes we have a laundromat ................. but everyone uses detergent and fabric softener (liquid or dryer sheets) ............... so residues are left in the machines

and OH had to wash everything in soap at least twice (daughter's orders)

"pinch hitting" ................... picking up where I had failed :-D

so yes, you had done something good!

Dr Geek's hospital ...................... our local computer whiz calls his business Go Go Geek, so we say we are taking our 'puters to Dr Geek :-D
