we use something called Arctic Salt

not real salt ......... which is EXTREMELY bad for your plants if it gets off the drive way or paths.

It's superb ....... sprinkle it on the front steps, garden path, and the sidewalks, and it is effective for 2 or 3 days to stop ice forming. OH sometimes also puts it on the paving stones on the drive way in the back garden.

Snow isn't usually the problem ....... it's the ice that causes everyone to slip and slide.

That 4x4 should have had absolutely no problems on a hill IF he had had the correct tires on ................... you need proper snow tires, with deep grips, not all-weather, or whatever you call them in the UK.

it was very foggy this morning, then the sun burnt it off, and we had sun and clear blue skies. The temperature was on the chilly side!

Yep! Shovelling snow at 7.30. It was still dark with very little traffic about thank goodness. :-D :-D :-D

I've still a large bag of grit/salt which my son bought me last year. I put some in a bucket - it weighs a ton - and spread some on the path etc.

Hope you have recovered from your nightmare Dea...... <3

Nice quietish day really. Picked daughter up and had a leisurely hour at our favourite coffee shop and then came back here. Am taking her home soon - before the dreaded low temperatures arrive again.

Have been on the other side and seen a nice photo of my cousin and his family - he's only just joined the other side and it's a great way of keeping in touch. :-D

Also saw a nice picture of my grandchildren and daughter-in-law proudly displaying a snowman they had just made..... :-D

And, this is THE BEST I've ever used. We have grit tubs on every corner here (we live on one of the seven hills) and I will not use that, now Ive found this

It lasts for a couple of days

http://www.tesco.com/direct/winter-wizard-salt-bag-20kg/211-3161.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=211-3161

You can get smaller bags for £3.00, in store
