Glad you trip went O.K. Sylvia - I am sure that even if your friend didn't realise what was going on, your visit must have been a great comfort to his wife.

Good morning all :-)

Looks like there is no breakfast on the go :-(

I will set out the cereals, danishpastries and croissants, fresh fruits and yoghurts.

platters of various hams and cheeses, hot fresh bread rolls, crackers, toast and various sweet and savoury spreads...............

Porridge is bubbling away and bacon, sausages are sizzling in the pan.

mushrooms, tomatoes etc under the grill - eggs will be cooked to order !

Now, that all smells much better :-D :-D :-D

Tea, coffee and juices are on their way.

we had both a good time and a very hard time with our friends.

R's dementia has worsened dramatically since we last saw him ........... in fact, it shocked someone who had seen him less than 10 days before.

Add to that the weight loss due to the cancer ......................................

yet, it was great to be with him and his wife ............. and to make his wife laugh.

He paid little attention to most of the conversations.

In fact, we're not even sure that he knew who we were, other than I and S staying for a few days :-S :-S :-S

We did sleep very well ................ the houses are in the city limits but each is on an approximately 1 acre lot, surrounded by trees, so it feels like being in the country.

Gins .........

sorry to hear that your sis has had to go to the hospice ................. but she sounds to be having a ball!!!

It is so good that she is being given food that tempts her to eat.

Hopefully she will be home again soon.

Don't know why it took so long to reply David, but I'm not surprised that the records have been destroyed. There were hard copies and would have taken up too much space. It IS over 70 years ago remember. It may be helpful to do some googling to see if there is a better explanation.

Was in a supermarket this afteroon, when an elderly lady spotted me and came hurrying towards me saying how lovely it was to see me. She gave me a hug and I smiled indulgently. The face was familiar but could I think of why I knew her... :-S

I guessed she was from another church in the area but couldn't for the life of me, think which one it was :-S

After some delicate conversation, the penny eventually dropped and we chatted on amiably. Phew....that was a relief.... :-D

Our local takeaway is closed for a few days so we had pizza instead. As OH and daughter cannot have cheese, we get them individually made at the supermarket - they were very good too......but mine had the cheese and it was delish. ;-)

And why did it take data protection several weeks to reply?

David

David Report 16 Feb 2013 17:20

Some one from another thread some time back told me my GF Samuel Irvine died in Purdysburn Mental Hospital 1/3/1940 aged 66 last address Arosa Parade Belfast with wife Sarah Irvine nee McLarnon.
I was even told whch plot of which grave yard he was interred in.
.Sarah is in the same plot.

I wrote to Purdysburn Hospital asking for details regarding my GF's health prior to his death at 66.
Weeks past,no reply.I thought my letter was ignored or lost.
Eventually I did get a letter from data protection saying that because of the length of time that had elapsed since 1940 the records had been destroyed.

I find this rather odd. Some one found his death date in that hospital. And an earth burial site.

How can records be destroyed?WHY.was micro fische not invented?

If you go to the left of the screen, you will see a tab, My Threads' you'll find your previous thread there
