Jonesey .............

I love your description of the birds and the park.

One of the things that we love at our cabin was that it always had a pair of Sandhill Cranes in the summer.

They nested nearby, off our property, but spent a lot of time on the flatland and around the stream.

It was lovely to hear and see them flying overhead.

Jonesey it sounds like you back onto a very idyllic place. My friend, who is really into bird watching would be jealous. I love the picture you paint of the swans learning to fly.

Congratulations Linda on your anniversary

Cyn,

It sounds to me as if they were most probably Buzzards.

Dea, you came to the rescue........thank you.......I've had the porridge but am very tempted by that fried bread.......ooooooh......norty norty norty!!

Happy 38th Anniversary Linds.......have a great day. <3

Thank you for the ornithological spiel Jonesey......I love watching the geese fly overhead in their formation. It sounds as though you have an idyllic view from your house - must be so relaxing at times.

Funnily enough, on the subject of birds, whilst looking up at the sky yesterday, I spotted what I thought was a glider aircraft and then realised it was a large bird. I called upstairs to OH (who is interested in such things), for him to take a look. He came down and told me that there were, in fact, two of them and he actually wondered if they were vultures!!!

We back onto a country park and have a large field behind us and we occasionally see herons but, OH says that he couldn't see the long legs which herons have. But Vultures??? :-S

Going for a browse.......see you later ~~~

Porridge is bubbling on the hob.

There are hot rolls, platters of various cheeses and hams, various spreads and jams, crackers, toast etc.............

Hot 'stuff' is in the pans and under the grills........... sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and fried bread.

Tea, coffee and juices..

Enjoy <3

Jonesey Report 3 May 2013 06:56

Mornin all,

I had a rude awakening this morning. At just after 5am my slumbers were disturbed by a squadron of honking Canada geese. Geese as you probably know honk a lot during flight as well as performing that other nasty habit of theirs, "Bombing" anyone or anything below their flight path. Indeed it is said that if a goose hasn't had a bowel movement in the last 10 minutes then it is probably constipated.

The geese are in temporary residence on one of the large pond / small lakes in the park opposite my house. The park which was once part of someone's private estate has 2 such ponds/lakes, one natural the other man made. The natural one has an island complete with a derelict folly on it. Throughout the year it provides a home for many different types of water fowl ranging from Moorhens to Swans and lots in between. If you like watching birds then an hour sitting on the bank is an hour well spent.

As well as the geese there is also a flight of ducks in residence at the moment. If geese are the bombers then the ducks are the fighter planes, flying round the area in tight formation. Every year for the past few years a pair of swans have chosen the site to rear their young. They build a large circular nest, often over the path around the water, and sit the nest until the cygnets hatch. Once hatched they take to the water and begin their training. It is amusing to watch them when the parent birds are teaching take off technique. The whole family "Run" from one end of the lake to the other, swim back to the start and then do it again, over and over.

Anyway enough of this ornithological rambling. What time is breakfast served?

I've just heard that our friend, and J's godfather, died about 1¾ hours ago
