Jax when your wifi drops out have a look at the network connections on the laptop. This is the two computer icons on your task bar at the bottom of the screen. Click on this and open networks. This will show all wireless networks in your area, secured and unsecured and hopefully yours will be listed. Click on this and it should reconnect.

My broadband has been solved, kinda. Switched phone lines but the help desk couldn't connect using my new router so got another one from the shop which also failed on both of my lines. So I have a loan router which I have just set up and seems to be working fine.

Wo have twp PC's (one laptop the other is desk top) in the same room using the same wireless network.

The desktop is ok and mine has been ok since its been plugged into the box but it is a bit dangerous with wires all over the room.

Yesterday it lasted 5 mins or sometimes an hour before it lost connection

Jax,

I presume that you mean that your laptop's internal wireless modem loses its connection with your router (The box thing).

Has wireless connection been lost completely or is it just that connection is intermittent? If intermittent there could be several reasons, not necessarily attributed to either the modem or your router. Things such as other radio signals, physical obstructions or even atmospheric conditions can all have an effect on the wireless signal transmitted by your router and picked up by your modem. Has anything altered in the area in your home where you have your router and where you normally use your laptop? Something as silly as a new portable telephone can have an effect.

If in the worst scenario your laptop's wireless modem has packed up that would not mean buying a new laptop. There are plug in wireless adaptors available at a cost of approximately £15~20 that you can use as an alternative.

Anyone know what to do when a laptop will not keep it's wifi connection...apart from plugging it into the box thing or getting a new one

Cyn,

Just had a thought.

You could try a post at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,84.0.html

You might be lucky enough to find someone willing to visit either the NAS or the Mitchell library on your behalf.
