I was watching a short documentary on Rita Moreno .. from the movie West Side Story and she is still going strong kicking up her heels and dancing. She is amazing and so agile for one born 1931...

Unlike Gins she wouldn't have slept in forever after a night out ..

I love the music from the show. Even Hamish McBeth - the police series had a few episodes where they were all rehearsing etc for their local show..

Glad you enjoyed it Sylvs... much better than dusting ;-)

Now, the house is clean ........ OH cleaned it

He shouted at me every time I so much as looked at a duster :-D

Friends will arrive in about 4 hours from now, and everyhting is ready for them

So OH has gone out to the university ................ one of the last rehearsals for the Student Opera group's production of the opera The Crucible

That's an adaptation of the Arthur Miller play of the same name ........ he wrote it in 1954, and I remember seeing it about 1957/58. Very harrowing ..... and I believe the opera is just as hard to see.

didn't get on here at all yesterday .......... had physio at 1 pm, then had other things to do

we went to see West Side Story in the evening. First show of the season for the Vancouver Opera Company .......... the 2 leads (Maria and Tony) were opera singers, Officer Krupke and the store owner were also opera people but had no singing to do. The rest of the cast were from the musical and dance worlds.

It was great!

Apparently quite a few opera companies around the world have done W S S, but this was the first such production in Canada.

I had however forgotten just how .......... hmmmmmmmmm .......... politically incorrect, and "unsuitable for all members of the family" the show was!

Of course, the casts in the 50s didn't have the advantage of "miking" nor the overhead transcripts that all opera companies now have.

It was a little strange to have the cast miked .................... don't usually get that in a good opera company. Opera singers have very powerful voices!
