Cyn

re your comment about tears on Sunday

so far as I know, the UK is the only country that has its Cenotaph Services on a day other than November 11.

All of ours were today, sometimes 6 or 7 services in one town.

The US does not recognise Remembrance Day ..... it is only observed in Commonwealth countries. November 11 however is called Veterans Day in the US , and is celebrated with parades and observances, it is both a Federal and State holiday.

Not sure what happens in OZ and NZ ....... I think Australia has Cenotaph services on the 11th, but it is not a national holiday. Anzac Day in April is now of more importance. NZ celebrates Anzac Day.

Outside the UK, Nov 11 is observed as a national holiday in France and Belgium, being conisdered one of the most important days.

Today is a Statutory Holiday in Canada ............. and the numbers of young people attending have been growing fro the last 5 or 6 years.

Mr H couldnt keep his eyes open past 6 30 m which means that he will be up at 5 am latest...Sigh

He only fell asleep because he asked "Man"about the air rifle in the magazine Man was reading and half an hour later of very detailed info on how it works/is cleaned/pulled apart and put back together and how NOT to use one except on target range he collapsed on sofa and said he needed his Raisins and drink now to go to bed.... :-D

So I have been doing a little light reading on here, but not much longer as my eyes were closing after all the detail too and dont seem to have recovered properly... :-(

Anyone watch Doc Martin where he was reading to his baby from a Med Mag?????
It was just like that here...Spect Mr H will soon learn not to ask or else be and expert on air guns and all motorised vehicles by Christmas...

Cynths - You would not believe just HOW tired I am !!!

2 hours at the fair after school - £50 poorer and the children didn't go on that many rides!!!

They had a lovely time though so it was well worth it !!

Little grandson 'took orf' when he got his big balloon just as we were going home so had to be chased !! - You know what that means for me!!! :-D Luckily Grandad was there too but grand-daughter felt it her duty to give chase also so I had to try to keep up!!

Anyway - all home safe and well now but I, for one, am going to bed very soon! - The grandchildren will probably last a little longer ;-)

Hope Fans is faring a little better.

I reckon there will be a lot of tears shed on Sunday especially at many cenotaphs around the world.

Ten or so years ago, the numbers gathering round local cenotaphs seem to dwindle as many veterans had died. Now, what with the conflict in Afghanistan etc., it's affecting the younger generation and, whilst the crowds are getting larger, it's sad to think of why we are there.

I shed a little tear today observing the two minutes silence....thought about all the people who lost thier lives and those that will

And a special thought for my uncle <3

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- John McCrae.
