Ja...x - you saw that! I think Lisa was embarrassed!

Although it was widely known as an "unmarried mothers" unit there were a lot of married mothers who went there because the facilities were apparently excellent. We lived nearby so I suppose that's how I was born there.

My poor mother used to get ribbed about it something rotten.

MC

I also saw that you were born in the other section to the " the fallen women " section

My Granny always said So and So was a fallen woman " - I asked once -" Granny were have they fallen from "

Yes she was embarrassed - bet she told that story a few times

LK -- Monk and Monck are generally pretty unrelated, actually.

My mentor in the early days was a Monck from an Essex clan (there are very few actual Monck clans) who had never heard of my Moncks, although he had been doing a one-name study for decades. No wonder. He was the one who found my Moncks being baptised as Hill when he visited a Cornwall records office, and about fell off his chair when he realized he'd just proved my wild insane theory right. ;)

Jax

I google mapped my birth address and it was a street with camera/ photos all along and found the house 4 numbers away from mine

- there was a large grassy area about where mine would have been - they camera/photos are great - you can travel up and down the road - and swivel 360 deg

It's was great

Yeah I've done that on a lot of places around the country.

Although my mum is only in her early 70s I had heard of the address she was born but never seen it and was surprised when I found it still standing and was nothing like I imagined.

I google mapped someones house the other day and you should see the state of her nets..tuts.
And she does not seem to have washed the front doorstep for quite sometime and the state of her knocker is nobodys business..!

Renes Report 11 Nov 2010 21:40

Jax

I have only tried it the once - my road seemed quite posh - houses all made from local grey stone - can't imagine it was so - over 60
years ago - Dad was in the Army - and stationed in Bolton somewhere

Will have to try other addresses

Hi all

It's Remembrance Day, and a Statutory Holiday in most of Canada, including BC

It's cloudy, but not raining, so not too bad a day for all the services that have been held across the country. Most are held outside, at Cenotaphs or War Memorials, or any community space in places where they don't have a Memorial. BC is the last in Canada to have the service, due to the time zones.

I heard a plane go overhead just before 11 am, and as we seem to be on the route that the planes take to get to the Cenotaph in downtown for 11 am, that made me turn on the tv to watch the service for about 5 minutes.

Usually it's fighter planes, F-18s, that do the fly-past. This time it was a big plane, escorted by 2 smaller planes ...... I thought it might be a bomber, but it was an Aurora, part of our early warning system, accompanied by 2 smaller planes. I think the Aurora was originally designed as a bomber but adapted for use for 16-18 hour patrols out over the Pacific Ocean, every day, 365 days a year, flying at extremely high altitudes and taking photographs of everything and anything that might be suspicious.

During the Lament, about 8 or 10 small single engined Civilian Air Patrol planes did a fly past.

I didn't even know we had a Civilian Air Patrol!

This is the first year in which there is no WW1 veteran still alive, the last one died in February .............. but more attention is being paid to Korean War veterans, after that being the "forgotten" war.
