Google google, MC. If I expand, it may generate a vortex, resulting in what is referred to as whooshing noises hereabouts. ;)

Y'know what I just can't understand is the number of people who take something like this

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1228199

and put it in their google search box. Just to give somebody a simple tip for finding or reading something, one has to offer a full introductory course to the world wide web.

I was helping a Pakled yesterday along with others of course

Lots of good info was posted and he came back today and asked if anyone could help decipher it all out!

Errr....nope

Fans - I'm here to learn, as well as try to help!

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Nov 2010 16:41

So what brought you here, MC?

I should be prepared to answer that myself, since I ask, and my answer would have to be: I don't have a clue. How when where I first got wind of this place, just dunno.

I do know I paid for it for a good two years before I ever had any idea there were actual forums, although, Pakled-like, I did post a couple of threads on those ol' "surname boards" in my early days.

I'd looked at a couple of my own name boards and seen nothing but those oooold things that get dredged up at midnight, stuck on one of my own on one or two just really for info, and invented a couple of boards in the process. Since nobody else has fool names like McCock in their family. Found a couple of cousins by searching trees, generally just hovered on the benighted fringe. Didn't know that things posted on surname boards showed up in the real world too ...

Then one day I clicked on the thing that said "Community", being antisocial enough not to have cared to know, and never having been bored enough before to even bother finding out, what that might mean ...

Janey, had been member on GR for probably couple of years but hadn't used much as I quickly found Ancestry seemed to fit the bill better for what I wanted to do. Had kept tree on here as found "Hot Matches" useful.

I've got a couple of unsolveable mysteries in tree so came on here about August to see if anyone could help (no, not really - was the answer!). Before posting had read plenty of posts to get a feel and found myself jumping in!

Then the ambush was set and I've been held captive here ever since ......

The Captain of the Pakleds transporter

do I take it your are not a Trekkie !!!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Nov 2010 17:22

Yeah, well, I'll summon up Gul Dukat. Mmmmm. His lookalike is about to bring me coffee and a banana from next door, that will have to do.

If I ever get home tonight (it's noon as we speak), it will be chicken and leek pie, double mmmmm. And no leftovers for the ravaging mobs.

Reminds me of what somebody said the fridge looked like after I got the munchies one night. I don't keep munchie food around generally. Got a 7-11 on the corner so don't really need to, but sometimes just don't feel like walking half a block in waist-deep snow. Okay, that's an exaggeration. Anhow, it reminded me of it, but now I can't remember what it was. Something like how the fridge had been ravaged by starving jackals.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Nov 2010 17:24

Irene, I did not know or remember that!

"Grebnedlog ist ein Pakled und der Captain des Raumschiffs Mondor ..."

I am not a trekkie, harrumph. That's like calling a Trotskist a Trotskyite (which they always used to say was like calling a socialist a socialite). I believe "Trekker" is the preferred term.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Nov 2010 17:26

MC -- are you going to give us, or have you given us probably and I've conveniently forgotten, the links for your threads in question?

Renes

Renes Report 8 Nov 2010 17:33

Janey

It maybe trekker in your domain

but it is - I assure you a Trekkie - in mine

Renes

Trekkie and trekker are the official terms for Star Trek fans just put "old age" and "modern" before them in that order-

So what is the difference between a trekker and a trekkie? The short answer is: nothing.
