WWWooohhh Ginns,

There is nothing wrong with being a veggie !! - I am sure we all agree.

As you said in your initial post on here - the 'banter' is just that !!

I know you are 'pre-whatsit' yet again but we are NOT getting at you.

I believe vegetarians are much healthier and always seem to look younger in their old age than we carnivors, however, I am not one!

Along with my meat, I also eat lots of seeds, nuts and fruit but it doesn't make me look any younger (tee hee!)

I think it is because I eat them 'after' my bacon butties rather than 'instead of' ??

Hey ho - such is life.

Ginny

My friend was just worried about her children - as they were both slightly anaemic - and she also suffers from anaemia
- her husband is also a vegetarian - never has problems -

Now they are older 3 and 7 --- they have iron supplements from doctor

My younger sister and brother have been vegetarians since their very early teens. And non-smokers, of course.

My sister is the one diagnosed two years ago with Stage III colorectal cancer, at the age of 42. So much for eating grass.

My brother is in his early 50s and way overweight -- but then that is genetic ("metabolic syndrome" and all) and his breaking his foot and being pretty immobile didn't help, but he already was pretty, um, hefty.

My mum has a trick for immediately lowering her cholesterol when her doctor clucks. Stop eating cheese.

And try feeding a vegetarian diabetic. All those legumes ... they're just carbs (very good carbs though they are) in disguise. I wouldn't relish that job.

Mind you, although I don't have dietary or ethical (in principle - the practice can be an ethical problem) objections to meat eating, I do have political ones. The animals we eat are not an efficient use of the planet's food resources. But the problem with food availability is really more one of distribution, like with all other resources.

Then there is the greenhouse gas problem ... all those cows standing around doing you know what all day ...

So succinct Janey. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Okay....one Elizabeth Jervis

Parents John (b.1849) and Annie (nee Duckett b.1848)

Parents marriage: Jun 1873 (courtesy of FBG ages ago)
DUCKITT Annie Eliza W. Derby 8b 695
Gervies John West Derby 8b 695

On the 1881, her family is down as Gervis

Elizabeth is down (under Jervis) on the 1891/1901 as being born c1883.

On her marriage (1901) she says she is 21.

On the 1911 she says she is 28.

Her sister Julia is registered under JArvis. Elizabeth's husband to be (George Taylor) is staying with Julia just prior to his marriage.

These two births seemed the most likely but are both wrong - I have one and was refunded on the other.

Births Jun 1883
JARVIS Elizabeth Toxteth Park 8b 180

Births Sep 1883 (>99%)
Jarvis Elizabeth Ann Toxteth Park 8b 187

Ermmmm what have I forgotten? :))

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Oct 2010 21:49

You've forgotten Elizabeth's name when she married. Jervis? Oh, and no middle name/initial when she married or died?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Oct 2010 21:54

The only ones I see in 1881, in Toxteth Park. You really are supposed to copy it for us!!!! And also tell us all the kids, and when they were born.

John Gervis 32 = 1849
(Mrs) Gervis 32
Ellen Gervis 8
Annie Gerris 5
Betsy Gerris 4

Not them, I assume? If it is, is Betsy Elizabeth?

editing as I go along

1891 in Toxteth Park

John Jervis 42
Annie Jervis 40
Annie Jervis 16
Julia Jervis 9
Elizabeth Jervis 8

Betsy didn't make it through, it seems. Except I don't see a death for her 1881-1891 under any name variant. Possibly working out? But one Betsy and one Elizabeth, it would seem odd.

I think you're just wanting to flaunt that you have an ancestor named Elizabeth Taylor. ;)

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 15 Oct 2010 21:58

Yep. That's them in 1881. I'll go and copy the other census.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 15 Oct 2010 22:02

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Oct 2010 22:06

Okay C, we was cross-posting. (I was editing for conciseness -- is concision a word?)

So Elizabeth was born after 1881 of course, and her age in 1891 and 1901 and 1911 is relatively consistent (the marriage cert being the odd one out -- she was 17 in the census and 21 when she married the same year. Pregnant, by any chance? ;)

So 1882-1883 looks like the range.

Marriages Sep 1901
JERVIS Elizabeth Toxteth Park 8b 449
Taylor George Toxteth Park 8b 449

So no middle name.

...well fookin done

...any of you done that...stop it Fanny

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 15 Oct 2010 22:12

That's the correct marriage. Not pregnant that I know of. 1st child John born 1905.....oh.....wonder if there was a stillbirth or child death????

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Oct 2010 22:18

It just seems she may have married underage. What was age, then? If it was 18, she must have been born after June (or whatever date she married on) 1883. If it was 21, she could have been born anytime ...

Gervais(e) is another variant of the name. Tried that, too.

So you're left with

Elizabeth Jarvis 1883 Q2 Apr-May-Jun Lancashire
Elizabeth Ann Jarvis 1883 Q3 Jul-Aug-Sep Lancashire

Did you get the parents' names on the first one? She could be a niece or such. Have you tracked any sisters of the parents?

edit -- I have to hang around here a bit because I often get work assigned after 5 pm on a Friday, for Monday morning (it's 5:18 now ... yes it is!), but I'll be running off and leaving you to your own devices shortly!

Janey, I feel really guilty taking up your time on this....I'll squiggle around with it over time. You'll be needed much more by others out there.

I have a very sensitive guilt button you know ;))
