Hi there,

My relation Elizabeth Adams was married in 1888 in Darlington, County Durham. Her husband was James Adams a hawker, and Elizabeth was born in 1868 in Hartlepool, County Durham.

Could someone please try and find her for me in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census please?

Thank you

MargaretM

Sorry about that; I wasn't sure if that was important. Yes, it is Pattison!

Thank you

Thanks, Flick, you answered the question before I asked it.
Peter, you really should have posted her maiden name, you must have known it, you knew when she married.

Sorry, Peter, you're right, it wasn't necessary. I was thinking you wanted census info previous to marriage. I should read requests more thoroughly. I apologize.

I'm having difficulty finding them in 1891. The closest match is Elizabeth Taylor who is married to James.

Hmm, this is odd. I wonder where she is?! I'm a little stumped as to what to say ... she doesn't appear at all on even 1901 or 1911?

Possible in 1901?

Hi Margaret,

I think that may be them! The age of Elizabeth, the mother, certainly matches!

What about the daughter though; two are the same age but born in different places?!

Odd, but I think you have found them!

Thank you ... if anyone has access, are they about in 1911?

PS If I have worked this out correctly, then Hannibal Swales and Elizabeth Pattison Adams are cousins!

This is curious. Looks like same family with surname Swales:
1891 census
22 Gladstone Court, Lofthouse, Yorkshire
James Swales, head, 22, hawker of earthenware, born Guisborough
Elizabeth, wife, 23?, born Hartlepool
Christiana, dau, 3, born "
Mary A., dau, 1, born Guisborough

Hi Margaret,

Can I ask why were you were a little confused over whether Elizabeth in 1901 in actually her? I ask just becasue I think I may be there, but I just want to make sure I'm not jetting off down a wrong line!

Thanks,

Peter

Peter

You're quite right Margaret, and it is clear to see now!

Hmm, yes it does look like the same family but why change their surname?! I am curious about this!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 29 Jun 2010 16:28

No, I'm always just a bit hesitant to say "This is definitely her". I usually say "Is this possibly her?"

Christiana's birth:

My, weren't they just married in March quarter?

Peter

You are quite correct Margaret!

Yes, it is highly possible that Elizabeth Swales family were Elizabeth Adam's family!

Now, Elizabeth Adam's mother was a Swales. This family certainly are hard work, but even more intriguing and they do keep me busy! For every post one here for the family am I off resaerching other branches who are just as confusing!

Can you spot them in 1911?

Peter

I'm a little apprehensive to see what name they are recorded under for the 1911!
