I am trying to find out more about Thomas Thorn born c1794 my 3xgt grandfather and father of Thomas William Thorne born 16 Dec 1817. I saw the latter’s marriage record on the PR and his father like himself was shown as a plasterer.

Pigot's Directory of Sussex1839 has an entry for Thorne Thomas Under Cliff under the heading for Bricklayers, which correlates with the 1841 census in relation to Thomas William Thorne who was an unmarried 20 year old plasterer..

However the same Pigot's Directory of Sussex 1839 also has an entry under St Leonards for Thorne Thomas, Priory under the heading Bricklayers and Plasterers and I wonder if this relates to Thomas William Thorne’s father whom I cannot see in the censuses.

The only reference I can see is the PR that shows his marriage on 17 Feb 1817 at All Saints Hastings

Vera. Thank you. I haven't seen that entry before. His wife was named Elizabeth, had hoped to find out her origins from a census as well.

Hi Vera

I posted this lady's details last week and got some advice that I could get no joy with.. I saw the Bishop's transcript and the last two letters of her name ae not clear, but with the help of reseachers at the PRO we came to an agreed conclusion that her name was Shellitoe.

Checking on the image of the 1841 it states Thomas (the father) was not born in the county. Although sometimes as we know you have to take what is written with a large pinch of salt. :-))

Anthony,
I am sorry, but not sure what you are after now. You have a copy of the 1841....is it the same one that I showed you with Elizabeth( his daughter) although on the 1841 it doesn't show relationships.

If he was born outside the county of Sussex I guess this will be a non runner. In the absence of death records I doubt if i would beable to locate the death of elizabeth as well.
