I am seeking evidence of the birth and death of James Darroch - husband of Margaret Carrick. According to 1851 census info James was born abt 1824. He was a coal carter and lived in Glasgow. I am looking for a death between 1851 and 1861 as his wife is recorded as a widow in the 1861 Census with her son James (age 13) wife and son. I have looked at Scotland's People and can not find a death that fits - and I only got 2 hits for deaths in OPRs using Darroch - one seemed too old and the other an infant. I am hoping a death will give me the names of his parents. Can anyone help me. Thanks in anticipation. Lyn in NZ

If James's wife applied for Poor Law when he died there could be a wealth of information. I'll have a look for you [these records are not online] tomorrow or Thursday.
Sorry I have lost your email address.

Hi Cathy - thanks for this.
I looked at the OPRs on Scotland's People and the only one I can see is James Darroch age 45 who died in August 1854 from Cholera. This man would be too old based on the other census, death information as he is supposedly 45 years of age - did you see another one that I may have missed. Thanks for your effort. Lyn

Sorry Lyn my mistake I thought I had put his age in but of course you can't with the Parish records,,,senior moment again!

Have you access to ancestry Lyn? There are 4 family trees with James in?

Also if there is no death for him could he have emigrated?

Sorry I couldn't be of any help but I hope someone comes up with

something? What about Marion's records?

Kind regards,

Cathy

Sorry - didn't realise I missed replying directly to you Marion. Eliz Scott Darroch has been a helpful lead - and I am exploring some information there. Between my intial post and your reply I had found Mgt Carrick's remarriage to Peter Mulholland on Scotland's People - he was a butcher. Still can't establish when Mgt's first husband, James Darroch died, and may never do so! But there are still things to follow up on. Thank you for your help on this - it is appreciated - and I apologise for listing a response to to your infromation sooner. Regards
Lyn
