Can anyone please spot my relation Arthur Smitheringale in the 1911 census; he was born in 1884 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. I have an idea who his wife is but this doesn't correlate with info I have found on a marriage index! So hopefully the 1911 will clear it up one way or the other.
Also, Arthur died in Canada apparently; can anyone spot a death? I wouldn't know where to start looking for a death in Canada.
Thanks
Peter

This is curious! A marriage in Ontario, Canada of an Arthur Smitheringale who was born Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Same guy?
Ontario, Canada Marriages, 1801-1926 about Arthur Smitheringale Name: Arthur Smitheringale Birth Place: Eastwood Nothinghamshire Eng Age: 23 Estimated birth year: abt 1885 Father Name: Jos Prittie Smitheringale Mother Name: Annie Maria Clifton Smitheringale Spouse Name: Annie Fletcher Spouse's Age: 21 Spouse Birth Place: Eastwood Eng Spouse Father Name: John Fletcher Spouse Mother Name: Ann Lane Marriage Date: 5 Feb 1908 Marriage Location: Wellington Marriage County: Wellington Archives of Ontario Microfilm

From Ancestry message boards here:
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.smitheringale/1/mb.ashx
"I am researching my Smitheringale line from Nottingham, Lincoln and Northampton. My grgrgr grandfather is Henry Smitheringale born abt 1827 Maxey Northampton married Alice Barber (or Barker) brn abt 1812 West Deeping, Lincoln. Their son Joseph Pretty Smitheringale br 1855 West Deeping, Lincoln married Annie Clifton br abt 1860 Newthorpe, Nottingham. Their son Arthur Smitheringale br 1884 Eastwood, Nottingham married Sarah Anne Fletcher br 1886 Eastwood, Nottingham. Sarah (known as Anne) brought the family to Stellarton, NS, Canada May 1913 to join her husband who was already there (don't know exactly when he got here). They lived in Stellarton for a number of years before moving onto Minto, NB, Canada. Their daughter Annie br 1910 Ibstock (?), Nottingham married Edgar Launcelot McLeod br 1883 Minto, NB. My father Edgar Fletcher came from this union. I would be interested to hear from any Smitheringale's in England. Thanks, Cathy Lucas"

Whoa, this is getting a little confusing now ... so, does that mean Arthur was married twice? Also, if this is not the case, then who on earth is the Arthur who is marrying a lady in England in 1909? I can't see any other Arthur Smitheringale's in England on Free BMD.
Now RE the marriage in Ontario, I have Arthur's father as been Joseph Pretty Smitheringale and his mother as being Anne E Bentley, and not Clifton!

May I suggest to clarify exactly who Arthur Smitheringale's parents were that you obtain a copy of either his birth certificate:
Births Dec 1884 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smitheringale Arthur Basford 7b 110
Or what appears to be his parents marriage:
Marriages Dec 1879 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BENTLEY Ann Elizabeth Basford 7b 228a Bentley Anne Elizabeth Basford 7b 228a CLIFTON Anne Maria Basford 7b 228a Smith Samuel Basford 7b 228a Smitheringale Joseph Basford 7b 228a
If ordering the latter do not specify a female name only Joseph Smitheringale.
This sort of ties in with the Smitheringale post on Ancestry:
Name: Sarah A Smitheringale Gender: Female Age: 26 Estimated birth year: abt 1887 Date of Arrival: 9 Jun 1913 Vessel: Mongolian Search Ship Database: View the 'Mongolian' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: Halifax, Nova Scotia Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Roll: T-4749
Travelling to Stellarton. Accompanied by May aged 4, Annie E aged 2 and Leslie aged 3 months.

Just had a thought. Perhaps the couple first met and married in Canada and on their return to the UK married one another a second time to appease their parents.
My son and his wife did similar, marrying first in Jamaica ( on a beach) and then again in England.

Going by this ones birthplace he may have been a cousin of the other Arthur.

Wow thank you for this help! Wow, well you have found another Arthur SMitheringale, and I agree, that I need to order a birth or marriage certificate to confirm who is whose mother and wife! Saying this, I couldn't find another Arthur Smitheringale on FREE BMD hence why I ASSUMED (to make an ass of me and you), why the 1909 marriage was for Arthur Smitheringale!
Well I have learnt something there!
