Rose, it is in The Age (Australia) archives, 27 April 1934 p5 halfway down the column, About People.

Also, harbour, there is the Ridley Family Genealogy Forum: http://genforum.genealogy.com/ridley/. Or is that you who recently posted?

Looking at your above thread, Rambling Rose found a newspaper obituary that said Thomas Yates Ridley born Gibralter died in Victoria Australia in 1934.

He married in Australia in 1868 so how can you be sure he was in England before then? His mother may have taken him to her home in Ireland. He was educated in Dublin so it seems very likely.

I have to say that I have tried every trick that I know

and these guys just do not seem to want to be found!

I suggest that you buy that death certificate from 1855, see what the address is where he was living, and see who was the informant.

If it was Elizabeth, then we know that she was still with him, and also the name that she was using.

so to sum up we have

Thomas Yates Ridley b. 1796 d 1838

His son Thomas Yates Ridley b. Edinburgh 1822 d 1855 Lancashire (registered Liverpool)

His son Thomas Yates Ridley b Gibraltar 1846

Is that correct?

That should mean that Thomas b 1822 SHOULD be on the 1851 Census, with or without his wife Elizabeth ........ who I am presuming would be under the name Elizaebth Ridley if she married Thomas

or are you saying that she ddin't in fact marry Thomas and would be found under her maiden name?

I have to say that I have searched under both names, and nothing seems to pan out.

Lancashire Death indexes for the years: 1838
Surname Forename(s) Age Sub-District Registers At Reference
RIDLEY Thomas Yates 41 Heaton Preston HEA/1/3

Is that death in 1855 Thomas Yates Ridley (husband of Elizabeth) or Thomas Yates Ridley born in 1846

In other words ......... would Thomas be likely to be with his wife Elizabeth and son Thomas??

I have found the death of Thomas Yates Ridley in 1838, registered Lancaster .... so am presuming that is the one born 1796.

Otherwise .................. Thomas and his mother Elizabeth don't want to be found!
