Thanks for looking anyway - I've had trouble too - I found a brother John McIntosh living with Francis in one of the censuses and will order his birth certificate which might clarify their mother's name.

I too haven't been able to find a birth for Francis Mcintosh. I'm wondering whether perhaps Janet/Jessie was Alexander's 2nd wife and that perhaps Francis was Janet/Jessie's son....but in saying that I think her surname was 'Robb' but I've been unable to find a birth for a Francis Robb either!!!
