there is a gap between John & Ann when he could have been born I am wondering if his birth just wasnt passed on to the GRO .

yes all my dads siblingshave same mmm freshwater & they also shared the same parents as per marriage certificate

This may or may not be the child of Winifred's relation (maybe cousin) and I'm wondering if for some reason he was taken in by the Goughs and raised as their own. Everything is right about it and it would explain why there is no birth registered in the name of Gough.
Just a theory which I haven't had time to research yet.

yes i know my dads siblings well they are as much in the dark as well i have a copy of a birth cert that is the closet match to my dad but the dob is 15/05/1938 born in heywood lancs mother a Marion Gough no fathers name

i have advised him to reply on the thread rather than PM and have said i will copy & paste his reply as above

There are 4 Gough mmn Freshwater births between 1937 and 1942 all in Epping.......none called Alan though.

have you looked for his siblings birth detals.finding them may help locate your dads birth

You say that Alan's father's name could be Sidney and also mention Epping.

Trying to find any infomation for my father Alan Gough believed to of been born 8/06/1938 cant find no birth details..father believed to be a Sidney Gough? only closest record is someone born in Heywood Lancs . birth cert states no fathers only mothers name as Marion(a Adopted quote is written on certificate?).All siblings born in Epping Essex area
