If you've got access to a list of miners killed in that pit, try looking up some other names. I would guess most would be rego'ed at the same time, but some could maybe be recovered immediately. |

Probably that was the answer. I know that when I first started with this family I was never able to find graves or burials for William and Thomas in the local cemetery. |

I understand that the bodies were badly burned. Could it be that positive identification could not be done? (No DNA then nor dental x-rays.) Is it possible that thay had to wait a number of years before someone could be officially declared dead? |

Thank you for your help. If that is not them why would they not be registered in 1871. Thought it might be that they had to wait until they had the inquests on all the 70 men that had died .Seems a bit odd though. |

Please could someone look up Sarah Finch a widow born about 1814/15 in the 1891 census. She would probably be living in the Ince area of Wigan. |
